This is not a joke. My tC has a 130 miles on it. I hear the glass on the hatchback door
rattles when I drive on a rough road.

I meant a rough road (some normal city roads of San Francisco).

Yes, I get the same hatch rattle as you mentioned. Add that to my roof popping (usually when the car has been sitting in the sun for a while) and I'm enjoying my Pioneer sound system as much as possible.

I was thinking to myself on the way home today that the overall frame just isn't very rigid -- it just seems to flex when going over bumps and uneven roads.

I'm really hoping Scion will step up and take care of these problems. Some owners on here haven't reported any issues, but most seem to pop up around 1,000 miles or so (I'm nearing 2,600).

The most aggravating part of the whole deal is that it just won't happen when I have our service people riding around with me. Unless they hear it, they won't fix it.

Default it's not the hatchback..., it seems like the frame itself

my family and i have had our tC for about a month. the day after we took it home, we went on a bumpy road nearby, and i could hear a rattling sound coming from the back. i dont think it's the door itself though. when i went back there and had my dad drive, the sound seemed like it was coming from the area right between the rear moonroof and the hatchback, to the right side of the car. there is also a rattle coming form the bottom front corner of the back left window. my dad and i decided to take it in soon and take it on that same road with the dealership dude in the back.

No, you're definitely not crazy. I have 600 miles on my tC now, had it for almost two weeks.. I've heard that sound from day one. Definitely noticed it tonight too. It sounds like its coming from the back right somewhere. Almost sounds like ya, the glass isn't in tight or something? Its hard to explain, but those of you that hear it know what I mean.

If anyone figures out what it is so I know what to tell my dealership to fix let me know.

I don't have a rattling roof luckily, but I do hear a little wind over/through? the moonroof.. but I've never had a moon/sunroof before, so I don't know if that's normal.

I have had my Scion since the start of July and noticed the squeaky sounds when I started school about a month ago. I noticed it because the roads are worse and a lot more bumpy heading towards school. The sound is more annoying then the sunroof because it is more squeaky and happens more frequently. There are also some squeaky sounds coming from the area under the stereo.

Oh yeah, I have that problem too. Actually it was worse when I didn't have any stereo in there at all for about a week. Now that one's installed it happens less frequently.

I figured out that its the plastic (at least mine) inside where the stereo goes. When there wasn't one in there and it was squeaking I opened the door up and pressed against the plastic on the left side inside and it stopped.

Now, more tC have rattles.Three weeks ago, I got my new tC first day and I heard a lot of rattling sounds from the back. Man-made rattling sounds from the trunk. I had to put some sponges under the spare tire jack, tools box and rewraped the straps in
the plastic bag to quiet down the rattling sounds. Luckily there is no rattles from the Moon Roof because Scion fixed it in the latest production. For the rattles from the hatchback door, it looks like from the glass, I could not fix it by myself and don't feel like to bring my new tC to the dealer for the time being. I do hope Scion will have a Service Bulletin Board so that the dealers know how to fix the issue. I am sorry for such a nice designed car with so much rattles. It is a pity !

straight up... i go to school in philadelphia... the ghetto of philly with the ____tiest roads iv ever driven on... i have no rattles sunroof/hatch or otherwise and ihave 1500 miles on her...take it to the dealer and show them wots up, there shouldn't be any rattling in a new car! over rough road and bumps i get the same reassuring low thuds of the wheels/suspension taking the punishment that i cant avoid by swirving that come with a tightly tuned, brand new, sweet ride that i love a little too much for my own good... and iv been told that numerous times

No kidding. Hardly bodes well for a "marque" of Toyota.

I really do hope that Scion has a presence in the community, or at least the Scion dealers that I've seen on these boards would please take the time to communicate the general issues they are hearing to their Scion representatives. (Please feel free to msg me privately if you fit into one of these categories)

Well I'm glad this seems like a common problem - it makes me feel a little better about it, and hopefully we can figure out how to fix it.

While we're at it; does anyone else have a problem where the defroster lines in the rear window distort the image of the road? It makes it all wavy.

I believe Scion will only take time to see into the rattles from its new tC if more of the
owners report this problem or otherwise more new buyers will suffer from the rattles and don't know what to do. (Bring to the dealer is the last option because they might
not know how to fix it and disassemble the whole hatchback door without result. It is really hard to locate the rattles).
