Yes it does have a rev limiter. In fact I think it's exactly right where the tach hits redline. It's ECU-controlled unfortunately...

Here is how to tell you have a rev limiter.....

Push in the gas all the way and listen to the engine. With it gets to the top of the tach you will here it bounce "na na na na na". THat is it

They did that for performance... People are happy with the 15.7 in the quarter, but complain about the short gearing; you either have one or the other. Maybe you should have gotten an auto.

Yeah, I'm really surpised they opted for a 5 speed tranny instead of the 6 speed which is becoming the norm.

hahaitzskippy....does the rev limiter kick in at 6200 or beyond? I know most of the factory tachs are advanced in case you over rev. What is shown as 6200 (on your tach) is actually lets say 5900.

Once the Forced Inductions kits come out watch the rev limiter go up or be removed completely. I bet you can squeeze more power if the rev limiter it raised. Of course stiffer valve springs would necessary.
Eliminating the rev limiter would be stupid... You would not want that.
Regarding the valve springs, I guess you've been reading Sport Compact Car huh?

What I meant is that we are missing 6th gear. I'm not complaining - I like short gearing, and the reason I sold my last car was because of the auto - little auto Matrix that could tear an auto tC a new one ;)

Wow, in my Accord, I can be going 75 in 5th gear and it'll be at like 2,300... hrmm.

i'm sure that's part of the "fat-trimming" they did to make the scion more affordable.

I never said to eliminate the rev limiter just raise it a bit. This is common practice when trying to extract more power out of 4 cylinder engines. Simple fact...the more you can rev an engine the more power it will make. To prevent valve float you would install stiffer springs. I think someone should read up on how engines work.

JZA70--
I was hoping they would adapt the Celica 6 speed into the mix. But I guess they saved that project for the Corolla XRS.

The rev limiter is VERY annoying, once you start to do some spirited driving in the car, I guarantee you'll bump it every once in awhile.

It kicks in right at the redline mark, so there is little play. You have to really be watching how hard you drive if you don't want to hit the rev limiter.
