I personally dont like them on anything. I have driven cars with them and saw a small benefit in the rain.. but not much of one at all really. I can see fine out the back when it rains. If you use rain-x you can see even better. So for me, absolutely not, I think it would just clutter up the looks of the car.

Just put some RainX on the rear window. In fact, put it on all windows. Case closed.

If you need a rear wiper on ur tC, you either paranoid + looking behind you too much or going too slow

I wax all of my windows so rain isnt that big of a deal. Also, the morning dew slides off more quickly than it would otherwise do normally.

why does the XB have one when its back window is completely vertical? No rain or snow will stick to it. But our almost horizontal huge window doesn't have one? Makes no sense. The day I picked my car up at the dealer it was pouring rain and I complained about not having one. There should definitely be a wiper back there for us
It's a question of air-flow. Vehicles with vertical rear windows won't have as much stuff stick to the rear window, but some will indeed stick. Having the flat back that these types of vehicles tends to create a small pocket of air behind the vehicle, so there is relatively little air running across the glass. Anything that sticks to it isn't easily going to be blown off.
Cars with a more traditional line (and more sloped rear windshield) don't suffer from this problem quite as much, since there is no drastic change in body angle. As the car moves, air displaced by the front of the car flows down the rear windshield, and is more likely to blow rain/snow/leaves off the back of a car than would be the case on a van/suv.
That's why most SUVs have rear wipers, and most cars do not.

The tC does have a rather large back window and it would help out a lot here in northeatern ohio where we get ALL the snow hate it!!! But they'd prolly charge 175 like they did me for the stock floors mats.... ridiculous i tell ya!!!

or you can just go fast enough to blow the snow off at all times...

would look bad and cost more. spend your money on good wet weather tire's so you can drive faster than the rain wont be a problem. sorry for you snow people but it will be spring soon.

Um, mostly good replies!
Believe it or not, I'm aware of the rear-defroster - but as others have stated, it takes a while and isn't as good as with a wiper.
I knew the reasons would all come down to looks - which is why I added the 3rd option to be as an option only.
As for "driving faster" well guys, I don't know about you, but there are plenty of times when that's not an option - backing out of my long driveway, and sitting in awful LA traffic.
Rain-X isn't really a great solution either as your windows get dusty fast here, and make it useless.

Good posts so far!

A rear wiper isn't that ugly. Backing in to a parking space or parallel parking in the dark is the only time I really miss it.

I think it should have one though. The only reason it doesn't is because Toyota was able to save some insignificant amount of money, not because it's ugly or would slow down this ultra high performance automobile.

anything that sticks off the back of the tC is breaking the nice look it has going for it IMHO.... I wish I could shave my antenna and do away with an external, as it breaks it up as well.

I wouldnt call it insignificant really... what, you figure it would cost around 10 bucks average a peice over all the cars they made... so figure roughly 100,000 tCs at 10 bucks a shot. I wouldnt call 1 million insignificant. You have to remember that the money comes in volume, especially when you sell at minimum margin to get prices down.

But, I still stand by my ugly comment. It would be the first thing I tried to get rid of if it had one.
