so, i read through the WRX crash thread that was posted. almost all of those members keep mentioning things like "whenever my throttle sticks" and recalls left and right, i have to ask.
is the WRX really the well-built car that i thought it was? browsing through these boards it seems like the owners have plenty to complain about.

If its not made by toyota that its not made as good as you thought
look at the last ten years of consumer reports tests, theres one that was posted yesterday i think toyota and lexus are always on the top of the list in usually every car they produce
obviously since the tC is so new it doesnt qualify for testing but the xb was rated #2 for most reliable in the small car group right behing the toyota corolla
like i said before the wrx sti is my favorite car on the market but its biggest problem is that its not made by toyota
scion tC....IS!
keep in mind i have had 4 different toyotas (2 trucks 2 cars) i have had excellent luck w/all of them
i might be a little biast
(is that how you spell biast)

I dont think the VIN will show the supercharger on a tC. Since all of the cars are built monospec they wont show up because they will be installed @ port or @ the dealer.

Technically, they aren't all monospec. For the most part yes. But some are auto, some are manual, some have side-airbags, some dont. I would think that once the supercharger is out, a good chunk, if not most, will be installed at the factory.
I test drove a 5 speed wrx before buying the tC.
WRX is nice once the turbo kicks in. It's terrible before that... worst than a dog... I never drove a car with such low end... terrible... very disappointing... I been thinking about wrx for a long time... the minute I drove it... no more... no more love for wrx...
I still think tC overall is a much nicer car... lots of low end...
A friend of mine forward this to me... Not sure how accurate this is... WRX was on the top of the lemon list !!!

I'm surprised to see the Acura RSX up on the list...
Going to that link lead me to:

Lots and lots of complaints for the WRX while the tC only has 3
1. Wheels locked up going 35 mph.
2. Sunroof open and glass broke while driving.
3. Fully engaged brakes and vehicle failed to stop and kept accelerating
Then again it's a 2005 so we'll see.

WRX, if you want performance. tC if you want the looks and comfort. Also, used WRX... be careful what you buy, most owners I know drop clutch at 5K rpm to launch against other cars with more power... ruin their clutch quickly...
I'm a little late to the thread, but I have to chime in here. I currently own a WRX and I've got a tC on order. When it's gone, I won't miss it either. It's a great car on paper. It's a great car for a friend to have, so that you can take it for a spin. It's a great car for modding. It's not a good one to own, though. I paid cash for my 02 WRX about 2.5 years ago and I have 46k miles on it now. I have treated that car well all of its life. No clutch drops, never even been to the parking lot of a track, no racing. First off, what drives me crazy is that the engines make so much mechanincal noise. I mean, how many cars have piston slap from the factory? The flywheel weighs 46 pounds, so it's the slowest car to rev. Having 4 axles and a driveshaft (and 3 diffs) makes low speed throttle lift off almost violent. Driveability around town stinks. Off turbo its a dog, on turbo you look like a boy-racer taking off from every light. AC is horrible. Very thin paint. I have bug marks that are down to the primer, and the paint depth is 1/4th that of my old Toyota. Insurance, 93 octane, and Mobil 1 synth (I use, not required) are expensive, but I expected as much. The lemonlaw thing posted above I'm pretty sure is for current models. In this case that would be 02 and up, where WRX made up the vast majority of cars sold. Don't forget that the dash is a rattle trap, and the whole car creaks (eveh with Cusco front and rear strut bars a v-brace) when going into parking lots/driveways.
In all fairness, nothing has ever broken. It just doesn't instill confidence in you that the car is well put together or will last long. Yeah, performance wise, it literally runs circles around a tC. WRX runs something like 14.1@95. A supercharger might get you close, but put a $180 downpipe on the WRX and it's bye-bye.
If you're going to buy a car to beat on for 1-2 years, get a WRX. If you want a car that's going to last 8-10 years, get the tC.
