Default thinking about buying a tc, have lots of questions...

Hi everyone. I just found this forum and have a few questions. I am thinking about purchasing an 05 TC sometime in early July since my 89 Accord is on it's last leg. I've NEVER purchased a new car before and I don't want to go to a dealer just yet and ask these questions because I don't want all that sales pressure on me. First off, once the 06 models get released, how much of a discount will there be on the NEW 05 models? And do they sell pre-owned TC's at the dealers? For example I just visited Scion of Glendale's site and thier online inventory of pre-owned vehicles shows nothing. I really want to get a pre-owned vehicle since I take the train to work and the car will only primarily be used for weekends/errands so paying the premium of a new car seems a little silly since I won't be driving much. Also, which accessories are actually worth getting and which are useless? And which of them can be purchased outside of the dealer(like the TRD Exhaust) for a better price? I saw a list of accessories on the Scion site but they don't go really into detail so I don't know what some of the accesories are.

Thanks.

well which options do you have questions on? most of them are pretty self explanatory.
i got my tC with no accessories at all, bone stock, and i am still happy with all the features that it comes with.
As for the 05's pricing, good luck finding an 05 on the lot by the time the 06's come out. the tCs sell so fast that its just unlikely to happen.
All of the scion parts can be bought at mcgeorgeparts.com for a cheaper price, but they will not be installed.

I guess they are pretty self-explanitory. What about Scion Security? From browsing the forum, iv'e read it's pretty useless. That's sort of why I'm asking. I ust want to know what's actually worth getting and what's not. But for example, the ground effects kit and rear lip spoiler. These can both be bought cheaper from somewhere else right? Installation on anything I mentioned won't be a problem.

It's not too far, but i'd rather deal with something a little closer, unless you're selling it at a great price. Also I'm looking for a stick car, dunno if that's what you have or not.

One of the main Scion's marketing strat is true pricing. What's listed is what you pay; no mark-up, but not discount neither.

tC has only been out for a year, so the chances of finding a per-own at this time is pretty slime. Certainly don't count on getting a good selection from dealer.

If you are getting it in July, you can order the 06 version. Last time i check, which is 2 months ago, there were still waiting lists for the tC at the dealers. So, order ahead of time at least couple months.

tC comes with pretty good standard options already, everything else is just extra except maybe the floor mats, mud guard and maybe even the security option; I feel they are kinda necessary.

if I'm not wrong dealers get tC in small quantities so the cars will be gone very fast, so by the time 06 rolls around the chances of having 05s around is very slim.
Used tC are pretty hard to find...
Either case...just make sure you don't buy all the accessories that you don't want, cuz dealers will push you into buying all these other things...just stick with what you want...and go to a bigger dealer or more reputable one.

scion security is just an alarm that goes off whenever someone opens the door when it is armed. it's got a microphone to detect window breakins.

hope this helps...

a used 05 tC is going for near new pricing with low miles. new 05s are available for a reasonable price given the pricing strategy. i know you want used to save a bit of money but new 05 will not cost much more than used. the car hasn't lost money yet because of demand. with pure pricing the cost at all dealers is the same for the same ch!t in the car. financing is gonna be the key. get the best financing and it doesn't matter where you buy it. search the financing not the dealer. these cars are price fixed.

financing is the loan % right? what would you guys recommend i do for that? also, when you place an order for an 06, what's ussally involved? im guessing it's some kind of deposit? also what if i decide to change my mind?

My deposit was $500. But, I knew I wanted my tC after the test drive! The Dealer will usually refund your deposit if you decide against it because they can sell the tC practically the next day! These cars are HOT, man! The options you want depends on you. If though you pay a lot for certains options (ex. TRD Exaust, TRD Lowering Springs, iPod Upgrade), you don't have to worry about installation costs when you purchase your ride. I would recommend this for the Rear-Lip Spoiler since it requires prof. installation. I wish I could have gotten the TRD Springs when I built my car online!

You probably won't find a used '05. Being that they are new and built by Toyota (will last for years!), good luck!

If you want an '06, get on the list now!!

thanks for the info. what i really would like is a list of options that require to be professionally installed(like the spoiler you mentioned), and a list of options that can only be purchased at the dealer(as opposed to a 3rd party). i ask for this because my brother is a freakin expert with cars and he can install damn near everything. for example, i like the trd exhaust alot but it would be better for me to purchase it from somewhere else like mcgeorge since im guessing it's cheaper and i wont have to pay for installation(although maybe installation is included in the price?), either way it's still cheaper to pay for it somewhere else.

Dont quote me on this but I think the trd Exhaust is just for the Sound and no HP gain, Also not that it mattes TOO much but any of the options you get through the dealership is covered under warranty if your worried about that kind of thing.
