Default for those that have painted their rear hatch badges

what paint did you use?

better yet what was your process for doing it?
Im assuming a heat gun or credit card to pry it off, but did you sand or anything prior to painting?

and im assuming that krylon plastic adhesive paint would work best?

Back in the day when I had an emblem, I used a hair blow dryer to take it off. As far as paint goes - I used brake caliper paint and it worked pretty well. It did, however, start to chip down the road. I used 3M emblem glue to put it back on.

fishing line and a little heat to take it off, scuffed it a little with a scouring pad, and a couple of coats of regular black paint, followed by a couple layers of clear to protect it... maybe more involved than most, but it came out wicked!

I used stuff that was laying around the house (flat black Krylon paint for BBQ's, clear Duplicolor Nite Lites paint, and I think 400 grit sandpaper).

I was in the process of installing the Oznium 3rd brake light and decided that since that panel was off, might as well paint the emblem. I just used a cloth and a screwdriver to take the emblem off, did a very light and quick scuffing of the emblem, couple coats of the flat black, couple coats of the Nite Lites, then used a paint pen (touch up paint) to fill in the lettering with red.

The Nite Lites makes the flat black look a gunmetal type of color in certain lighting, and the reflective flakes in the Nite Lites shimmer at certain angles.

Actually, didn't really take a lot of work or patience, lol. Maybe a little patience. Took maybe 2 minutes to lightly scuff the surface to be painted, and really quick and light coats of paint, waiting maybe 2-3 minutes between coats. I waited until the next day to use the Nite Lites, just a couple light coats waiting 2-3 minutes between coats.

duplicolor metallic black paint with a couple layers of clear,
no primer or anything, there is nothing that would chip it whist driving.

not one chip and its been on for about a year.

i did have to repaint it when I first did it, so scrapping old paint with finger nail left old paint still in the sion lettering, which is why it came out uneven... live and learn I suppose.
