Default TRD oil filter + Royal Purple installed! (Pix 56k)

I installed the TRD (USA) performance oil filter along with switching to Royal Purple. I took some pics so you could see the diff between the Denso filter and the TRD one.

Denso Toyota Standard Oil Filter (the one that comes with free oil changes)

TRD (USA) Performance Oil Filter

Comparison from the side (TRD Left, Denso Right)

Comparison from the bottom (TRD Left, Denso Right)

The Tools

The TRD Performance filter has a silicone bypass valve that's visible from the bottom. I don't know what else to say except it says its supposed to trap 45% more dirt than regular oil filters. The oil filter was so easy to change! It was practically right under the car.. (coming from a 2000 Toyota Tacoma non prerunner and 1989 BMW 325i) This is my first time using Royal Purple... now to see if the claims are true!

BTW the TRD filter was 12.95 @ Toyota of Orange. I've seen them run for 21 bucks elsewhere. :D

I would have done a walk through on the install, but i know everyone here knows how to change their own oil.. right?

I hope you have quite a few miles on that motor going to Royal Purple. I have seen my share of Cars eat bearings going to Royal purple as well as seen some do just fine. Be careful!!!

Here is a page about the difference between a free oil change filter...and a high performance one. Its a pretty interesting read. Its done for a maxima but you get the picture...

The TRD filter is a little bit fatter (as you can see in the pictures).. the rubber ring on the bottom is thicker than the thin piece of recessed rubber in the Denso filter. The middle thread on the TRD filter is pretty deep in comparison with the Denso.

Whatever. This is one mod where the risk doesn't suit the reward (messing up engine due to not changing oil type/filter correctly).
