Default TRD Springs Test Drive Review

just got the tC back after we lowered it with the trd springs.

exterior: it should have come from the factory with them and its the same exact drop as the tC show car that we first saw at the north american auto show. it has that bmw type drop not too low, not too high, just perfect.

ride: i thought it rode very much like stock just slightly stiffer but not like slammed car. i drove it on the freeway and drove over our san diego freeway pods and it felt similar to the stock ride. i even drove over a few potholes that customers drive over on test drives and it felt the same. you don't lose the factory ride quality with the trd springs which i figured and the difference is felt more when you drive the tC hard.

handling: certainly better since the ride height was lowered but there's hardly any body roll on high speed corners. the rear is better planted compared to stock when going 60mph on our 163 intersate loop on-ramp. the rear of the stock car would twitch if you pushed it too hard and you don't get that anymore with the trd springs. i got the car as high 70mph on the loop before the tires started howling and still the rear stayed planted

its a steal for $199.00 considering you can use the factory shocks with them. if you want a lowered look without sacrificing straight line ride quality, if you want your tC to handle better not because your taking it to a track, you can't go wrong with the trd springs.

we also ordered the rear sway bar but we might hold off since its pretty good with the drop.

Hey Rich,
That's awesome! Based on your review I think I'll probably add the TRD springs soon after I get my car. Thanks for the great reveiw. BTW - any before and after pics? How much of a drop did the TRD springs provide? Thanks, Jayme

We just put these on our tC too...very very nice. With the 19" wheels it looks totally sweet and the ride is great.

Does anyone have any idea what the ground clearance was before and after the drop? My main complaint about stuff like that is hitting crap in the road with it lowered - I like driving around in my car, but I've still got to get it into funny driveways and over roads that aren't pristine from time to time.

RICH!

YOu freakin rock man, I was waiting for someone to post this on the boards. This is a definite addition to the TC.

DO you have the stock wheels on that thing, or did you go with 18's...19's?

Rich.. did you mean their public cost is 199 with installation from you guys?

My dealer STILL says they don't have the springs, nor will they be ready soon. Agh, i really think they have no clue... can one of you dealers call them and have a dealer to dealer talk ?

our entrance and exit to the dealership is very steep and whenever i enter or leave in my car i always go at an angle. the trd springs for the tC is not the case, i can still drive straight.

stock wheels!

we probably won't go 18 or 19 on our demonstrator. if we get a dark 5 spd tC that's not pre-sold we'll put some jdm type wheels, springs, cai and exhaust.

retail for the trd springs $199.00 l plus $96 for install l total $295.

all they have to do is call their trd sales rep its not very hard.

SPY has some awesome springs for the xA and xB with a 2" drop...I need to give Jason a call over there and see if they're planning anything for the tC.

I have to say that even though 1.2" isn't very much, it looks clean as hell on the tC. We've got 19" SYMBOLIC wheels on the car and they look nice. I'll try to get some pics up next week.

again the trd springs is a lowered look not a slammed look. its for people who want to sharpen the handling, looks without sacrificing ride quality.

anytime you go over 1.5" drop eventually leads to new shocks 10-15kmiles later. i'm pretty sure eibach, teins and tanabe will eventually have springs that lower the tC from 1.0" to 2.0".

Thanks for posting on this matter Rich Manas, I just ordered my TRD two days ago and I was wondering if they were going to be too stiff and bouncy, I feel better now, thanks.

I saw a black tc 5spd at the Kearny Mesa location today. Looks really nice.
Oddly enough, there wasn't anyone to help me; otherwise, I would have asked to take that black one out for a spin.
Would opt out of the exhaust they had on it. Other than that, the car looked very nice.
Low but not too low. Didn't see a stock one for comparison.
spoiler + springs + floor mats + exhaust really pushed up the price though.

First time being in one, and I can't say I liked the interior materials all that much...maybe I'm expecting too much coming from an IS, but...

Still great value...just don't go overboard on options.
