Default Warranty Trip #1

Ok

Brought the TC in for its first oil change. I figure while I am doing that I will mention some of the things I have been noticing. List is as follows:

1. Scion Security doesn't work as stated in the manual. (we know this is as scion has designed the pos but I figured why not.)

2. The bumper applique they put on bubbled after they stuck it out in the cold. I was told about it when I bought the car they bought a new sticker I just didn't have time to bring it in.

3. The car loses power in the mid rpm range at around half throttle in 3rd gear. (don't know why but its rather annoying when trying to merge into interstate traffic.)

Tech takes all that down no thanks to the terrible computer system they have. I leave with a coworker and come back later to pick it up.

When I get to the dealership to pick the car up I get the rundown on what they found and such.

I'm saving 1 for the end

2. Tech (different one) tells me the service guys didn't notice anything wrong with the sticker. I told him last I checked it looked like poop. We both go out and I point out the penny size bubbles in the sticker. Ok we can fix that. 2 solved!

Wait this wasn't here before... They scratched my car. I can't prove it so I have to buff it out myself.

3. "We cant reproduce the problem" I figured as much this would be the case since its hard to get the conditions right for it to happen. Tech tells me to run a tank of premium through it. I was ready for stupidity on this one so I accept it.

1. THEY FIXED IT...
The Tech mentions to me that the mic in the original security is no longer being used due to loud systems setting off the alarm. At this point I am shocked because I have read so many bad things about the security. They are using a vibration based system according to him and it just needed to be adjusted. I shall be testing it again tomorrow.

when i took my car to get fixed i left it at the overnight drop off parking, when i wnet back the next day the rear bumper had a huge hit on it, they told me it was like that and they are not relposible for vehiles left over night.
what really happened was i left it in reverse wwhen parking it next to the wall, the idiot in the morning must have never taken it out of gear and smashed my bumper into the wall and must have wrote down that the bumper was damaged before anyone saw it.

i love the scion cars and community but canot stand toyota servic.

im like okay, so i goto another toyota stealership like 5 mins away and they were like yeah we can do it. I was like cool.

but then wondered how come the other one didnt wanna do it? -_- (all they did was put blocks of wood to get it on the thing anyway lol)

Yeah I agree some of the service is crap. I had my alignment done when i lowered my car. about a month later i started to get a bad popping sound in the front and i had a vibration at highway speeds. Well i installed my new TRD struts last month and I found the Lt front strut bolts were no longer tight. I took them off with my fingers. Now since i did the work and know that everything is good, i have no vibration and the popping noice is gone. when i mentioned it to the service department that didn't seem to care.

1) What is the issue with the security? I have Scion Security on my 2005 and have zero issues with it.

2) Ya, there's no way to prove the scratch. Might suck, but at least they fixed the applique.

3) If they can't duplicate it, there isn't much that can be done... really. I work in IT and it's the same thing when I go to fix a computer. If I really can't see the problem or any sign of it, there's not jack that I can do for it.

I'm really not sure why he'd recommend the premium though - that's a waste.

The security would not go off when you struck the windows. The manual states to test the system you can tap the glass with a key and it should set the alarm off. I have read about many people having that problem on this forum. People breaking glass without the alarm doing a thing. They adjusted the tolerances so now its works as it should.

oh well on the scratch its not bad so I don't mind (it is however my last stealership oil change even though i still have one left)

I am also in IT and I know what you mean. Im not mad at them for it because I knew this would be the case. Now I have mentioned it to them so if it gets worst they cant say "you knew and didn't tell anyone so its your problem"

Yah I don't get the premium thing either. The car isn't meant for it so im not doing it. I will just run a thing of FIC through it. I also have a diagnostic machine that I can record sensor data with while driving... might give that a shot.
