Not sure who you are asking, but with a quality gas cap, no fuel should be "wasted" The only real wasted fuel is when you press the brakes.

^Also, to clarify, I think he meant the amount of fuel "used" not "wasted." I count nothing as waste, because unless your fuel tank has a big hole in it that leaks gas out, everything is used toward your car.

Also most people don't really know it, but SOMEHOW, i don't know how, but somehow the govt did a study and determined that citizens wasted hundreds of thousands of gallons of gasoline caused by evaporation due to insufficient gas caps, phew... That was a mouthful

I guess we just have a different lingo, whenever I "use up" the fuel in my gas tank, I and a few others down here consider it wasted gas ex; I wasted x amount of gas/gallons getting here, etc. Never mind, what I meant was, how are you calculating the amount of fuel in gallons to determine your MPG?

It's on the receipt; also on the display of the pump it tells you how many gallons you put in. Only works if you get a full tank of gas each time. I reset one of my two trip meters every time I gas up. So, (miles traveled)/(gallons used) = MPG.

So thats what those random numbers on the display indicate To help reduce any variables one should: Fill up until the first click, no more, no less (this way you fill up to the same point) not until you think your tank is full or a few clicks after. Reset trip meter. When the tank is empty; come back to that same gas station, fill up with the same grade fuel previously used, and fill up to that first click. Now, devide the amount of miles on the trip meter by the number of gallons pumped. What some do is they estimate using pseudo math by thinking that since their gas tank is14.5 gallons, they just hit reserve, and filled up with X amount of gallons they come up with their own number of gallons used. Thats inaccurate.

I don't trust most people with doing simple math. Those same people voted for Bush.

Time to rip on me now......

Final Trip meter reading = 330 miles
Fillup until auto shut-off= 10.9 gal.
MPG= 30.275229357798
This is faked.
you can try and prove anything all you like but internet haters will still say your full of ____.

Why would anyone think that is fake? My tC is currently showing about 300 miles with the gas needle in the same place. That only works out to about 1.5mpg less than you. ^

i dunno. but im not obligated to do anything more, if some dont wanna beleive me i dont care, my survival isnt based upon random internet guy's acceptance

maybe his expirience with boosted cars doesnt lead him to beleive such mileage is possible.

How are you supposed to get back to that gas station if the tank is empty? Run out of gas uphill from the gas station?

Wow, you guys nitpick every expression. I didn't mean literately empty, when your reserve light comes on would be sufficient. Hell, you can even do it when reach the half way mark, but the sample would not be as accurate of a representation of your gas consumption.

I usually get between 28-31mpg.

I drive mostly highway, and I only use top tier Shell 87 Octane.

Higher octane in an N/A engine is complete waste.

You have been misinformed my good man. But that is another topic...

Anyway, Menace obviously we knew what you meant, I personally wasn't "nit picking" i just thought it was worded funny.I'm not here to fight, just debate, And anyway, gas mileage is gas mileage whether you take it at a half tank or at a full tank, as long as you are comparing gallons put in the tank as well as distance traveled and filling up the tank to the same point (full).

Cars rated for 87 octane do not benefit from higher octane fuels.

Higher octane fuels mean they have an increased resistance to ignition than lower octane fuels. You also risk having increased fuel deposits due to unburned fuel.

i filled up my car today.... 350 miles, 12.2 gallons = 28.688 MPG. i was on the highway going anywhere from 60-75mph for maybe 30-40 miles tops on this tank. the rest was just around town and stuff. the a/c was off and on a lil bit throughout the tank, and i had taken it up to redline once or twice as well.

i usually let my car warm up for a minute or 2 each time before i put it in gear and drive away so i figure round up just a hair to 29MPG.
