Default xB XM antenna too big for tC...

Got my hands on a used XM kit off xB, put it in this weekend. I wanted to do it by the manual, but found out that the sat antenna does not fit where tC XM install manual recommends - the antenna is too wide.

So I ended up putting it up on the rear of roof using some 3M adhesive. The cord is too short to put it in the middle and still run through the recommended grommet under the bumper, so I had to install the antenna on the righthand side corner of the roof.

Thinking about moving the antenna toward the center of the roof and running the wires under the roofliner - but so far it works great and I did not have to pay $700 for the tC kit.

And just how much DID you have to pay?? Right now I am using a Delphi Roady, going to upgrade to the Commander and go direct-in or I may do something like what you have done.

I had an XM Commander in my Matrix - loved the unit, but having everything controlled by the factory HU is way better, plus not having to use an FM modulator makes a big difference.

I paid $450 for the XM receiver kit bundled with a 6-disk changer. I do not see the need the changer, so I'm selling it for $225-275, leaving me with XM kit cost of $225-175.

Not too bad. Looks like you got a good deal on it. There is now a way to go direct-in to the CD Aux on the factory HU for the commander unit, so you can preview what's on XM and still have full control over your AM/FM/CD functions if you want, kinda cool if you ask me.

Do you get the station/song/artist display on the HU or do you still need commander display unit? I've seen people hooking up aux-in, but it's still not 100% what I wanted - my goal was to keep it as clean as possible.

Btw, I just moved the antenna to the middle. ran the wires via the c-pillar.

Looks much better in the center, I like it. As far as using the commander, it still displays the info on the commander unit, which sucks for cleanliness reasons, but is pretty cool for extra functionality, being able to see what's on XM and listen ot something else at the same time is what I like about my setup. Props to you though, looks real clean and I'm sure you love it.

The only tC I've seen with the XM radio is the demo that tc4me drove for a weekend. The antenna was right behind the antenna... *shrug*

I tried sticking it there, too, but xB kit's antenna does not fit in that spot (it hangs from the edge of the car).

SWF 05 tC,

Where did you mount your Roady at, and how did you get the install done? Are you just using the FM Modulator? As of now my Delphi just sits in my house cause I have no idea where I'm going to put the dang thing without cluttering up the passenger side with a mounting bracket ?

Any pics you or anyone else might have can you post please????

It's a (real) honda s2k antenna. excellent AM/FM reception and it fits perfectly on the antenna base. I got it used off a newcelica.org member. there is a guy there who sells these antennas all the time for $15-17.

Heh, I didn't even notice that. I have one too. It looks like the S2000 antenna should be the stock antenna on the tC.
