***the offical autoX thread***
Our STS is the most competitive here. Old civic hatches, imprezzas', integras, focus's, neons, newer hondas of all sorts, hundai, etc. It is a tough class to compete in here.. great drivers in it as well. And still only one scion
Ours is the most competitive class here, too (aside from our tire class strictly for PAX). No Civic hatches this year, though one did win the class last year. It's almost all Impreza's, 240SX's, and Integra's this year.
And still only one Scion.
And still only one Scion.
I mean, at least we're out there.
I've sorta come to terms that I won't be winning nationals with a tC... but hey, it's all good.
News from the SCCA front - Now, since we can order a tC from the factory with a FACTORY-INSTALLED TRD rear sway bar, it is technically LEGAL for the trd bar to be included in H-stock!
I'm sure ya'll know what this means... The tC is likely to go from a 2nd or 3rd choice for H-stock, to a likely 1st choice.
Still waiting on the ruling on that, but it's kinda exciting nonetheless. I'll let you know when I hear anything.

Also,
It'd sure as hell help.
And besides, stock classes are the easiest to be competitive in. Don't HAVE to modify to the "max" for the class to have a shot.
In addition... Stock classes = Hoosiers.
Which, makes them faster than us street tire guys

Well, my personal opinion, I don't see it being appealing at all for it's stock class. It's just far too portly to keep up with the Mini's... which I don't believe they'll be reclassing. Where would they put it? G Stock? With the Cooper S? And they can't move them both up one class, because the MCS wouldn't stand a chance in F Stock. So they're just going to leave everything as it is and people are going to have to start finding Mini killers (which they are).
The only class I really see our cars performing well in is STS, or maybe FSP. We will get soundly trounced by the likes of STi's and Miata's in any of the other ST or SM classes.

Im not familiar with what designates what class your car would fall in based on mods. Where would I find this info? I would really like to get involved in this sport.
But in STS, there are the 89 civics. 2100lbs and they DO NOT slow down.
SM -- sorry, but not a chance.
STS--- maybe if we can somehow get by the 89 civics. That's pretty much the only cars that ran this class at nationals. They're just too damn light.
Mini S would do fine in D-stock. The car to beat there is the Integra TypeR.

Use the worksheet to figure out what class you're in, and then you can use the guide to see what you'll be up against.
I know we can be contenders at the regional level, and I'm pretty sure that someone who really knows the car and knows how to get around cones can turn some heads at Nats with it, but we aren't going to knock the Si off the podium anytime soon.
The results from last years nationals show that... 18 of the top 20 were 89 - 93 civics in STS.. most of those 89 - 91 si's .

And for no other reason besides that they're so damn light. The 23rd place guy (Nick Jackson) is the guy that dominated STS in my region last year. A good video for understanding just how much weight matters over power is the Top Gear Hill Climb challenge:

There is a car in our club they call spider pig as well... announcer sings the spider pig song every time it is getting ready to run
If I remember correctly, our club had 7 trophies at nats last year. As well as some other good placing
9th in D Stock (T)
5th in C Stock Ladies (her first full year of autox too!!!)
8th in Cstock
2nd in STX (T)
6th in STX (T)
2nd in STX Ladies (T)
8th in STU (T)
14th in CP
3rd in DP (T)
5th in DP (T)
8th in XP
10th in XP
Not to mention some other good showings. In other words, we have a LOT of very good drivers in our club... makes it challenging!

The HUGE weight disadvantage, and yet, only lost by 0.6 seconds over a minute course?
<just being devil's advocate. I know how important weight is.

The TRD items that are HS legal for the 2006-2009 are the TRD front strut tie bar, TRD rear sway bar. The 2007-2009 also get to use the TRD short shifter.
The tricky part is providing proof of legality. Since alot of people won't believe that the TRD items are a factory installed option.
The best proof is a window sticker "Monroney label" showing that the TRD items were installed at the factory not the dealership.

HS here locally gives me and the tC some great competition.
Jack Burns is the 2007 HS national champion (Cincy Region)
David Patrick is the 2007 HS 5th place trophy winner (C. Kentucky Region)
Scott Bourne who finished just out of the trophies in 2006, 2007, and just recently came in 2nd at the 2008 Dixie Tour. (C. Kentucky Region)
I finished 1/10th of a second behind Jack at the beginning of 2007 and beat David and Scott by 1/10 a second or more twice.
Now my performance at the 2007 SCCA Solo Nationals tells another story. BTW, it was the 1st Scion to ever compete in the 35 year history of the event.
At Nationals last year I sucked a$$. Multiple reasons why and 95% of them were the Driver. It was my 1st national level event. Not nearly enough experience in cold wet conditions. I think the 3 run format kind of messed with me. Most importantly I can be a pretty damn good driver but I'm not very consistent. I finished well behind the people that I can hang with at local events.
The tC wasn't prepped fully for Nationals. It was still running on stock shocks/struts, an untested alignment, and as good as the Kumho V710 is the Hoosier A6 would have been better.
I would encourage and welcome more tCs to run HS nationally, I have no doubt in my mind that it can win nationally. It just needs a better driver.
I run TRD springs, which still put me STS even under the new rules. I wasnt even aware you could order the tC with the sway from the factory (rather than port or dealer)... but with the springs I am still in STS. But, in the end, I am going to set the car up how I like it and take whatever class that puts me in. I like trying to compete, but I autox for fun and am not going to change my setup just to reclass myself. So STS is it for me!
