dude, nice hitch, but time to step up to a new bike. technology has progressed a LOT since the Trek Y bike...

(in all seriousness that is a nice hitch, might have to do something like that and ditch the roof rack if gas prices go up much further...)

I'll be picking up one of these soon enough. I have a small utility trailer (4'x8' or so) that I'll be towing my bike to track days on. Never more than 1000 lbs (trailer is rated at 2k lbs). A jet ski would be similar.

The car will tow just fine. I've seen a crapload of Golf's, Bugs, Neons, and even older, less powerfull and weaker cars towing small trailers. It's got plenty of power for this kind of towing. It's not going to pull your boat out of the launch or anything though...

Just watch the tongue weight and everything will be OK, I promise. It's not the end of the world. If there's a warranty question, just tell them you have only ever used a bike rack on it! :D

 

Man that was one of the reason's I was going to sell my tC, I have been carrying my DJ equipment in the back but just recently got a couple of more speakers,
so it no longer fits, maybe I'll be able to get a little trailer to tow it. I'm sure its all less the 1000 lbs.

Hey the theJrod I was wondering if you ever ordered that hitch. If so did it fit? I just wanted to post that I ordered the Curt/Da'Lan hitch and the holes on the hitch are a good 1/2 inch off from the pre-drilled holes in the factory frame. It appears I have the right part number but someone may have put the wrong sticker on the wrong hitch. In any event I would not recommend anyone order this hitch until I can get a hold of someone who can clarify what my problem is. Unfortunately that will have to wait til' Tuesday. As far as towing goes, get over it, that car will tow any small trailer just fine. Just keep the tongue weight low. I pulled a 5x7 trailer loaded with a riding lawn mower, a small mower, and a few odds and ends with an automatic '86 Camry for years and that underpowered wonder car never even struggled. As I recall that car even had a simple hitch welded to the back bumper frame. Nothing as substantial as these hitches. Peace.

brighton dude...........cool ride and setup. Exercising must be serious for you........... I'd probably start exercising just because it had to do with a mod for my car. Other than that, I'm staying behind the steering wheel.

 

I got a hitch like the one linked/shown in this thread. I've towed a pair of jet ski's (1350 lbs) 600 miles round trip, including over Jellico Mountain on the interstate. I towed up to 80 MPH for a little, and regularly held highway speeds. I've also towed a 5x12 utility trailer with 15" tires and a floor made of 2x6's with a 500 lbs motorcycle. As long as your tongue weight isn't much, the tC tows well. The auto trans was good; the brakes were more than enough; there's always been more than enough power. I know it's not made for it, but I'm spending way less money in wear-and-tear than I would spend renting or buying a tow vehicle.

 

Anything bigger than a Radio Flyer wagon = No

Not a good idea. The frame isn't welded for towing. Accidentally dragging a trailer wheel off and back onto pavement could jolt the frame enough to make rear tow and or rear camber difficult to align.

The tC also lacks a proportional valve in the brake system. A proportional valve provides more rear brake force when towing. No proportional valve when towing means too much front wheel brake force and too little rear wheel brake force.
