So I just got back from the dealer after they spent the whole day looking at it and not doing anything. Long story short, I have to bring the car back next week b/c there is something wrong with my driveshaft. I don't know what that is exactly, but it sure don't sound good! Anyone ever have a similar problem?

I have 23K. But I too am interested on how to tighten the driveshaft. That is good to know, but its covered under warranty, so I won't be doing it myself anyway

it ONLY happens when I accelerate, never when I brake. If i hit a bump and i'm not accelerating - no clunk. If I hit the same bump while accelerating - clunk. To demonstrate it to the tech, I put the car in 2nd gear at 3K rpm, take my foot off the gas, and snap accelerate (a sudden hit on the gas pedal) - it makes the sound REALLY loud when I do that! (no wheel-hop btw)

You think it could be the CV axle?

I'll mention the cv axle as a possibility when I bring it back, but how sure are you that the tC has no driveshaft? If thats really the case, i'm gonna give it to these guys good!!

you need to go to a good dealership that has the proper sound equipment. They can place sensors inside and outside the car. Then they'll drive it and whatever sensor sees the most sound emmission, then they will move more sensors to that area until they have located the sound. Then tear your car all to peices to find the problem lol. jk. Well they might who knows.

lol, that sounds like an interesting idea - probably would work, i dont know. But the dealership I go to is the 2nd biggest one in the tri-state area and although I hate em, they are one of the best dealerships around based on reviews (I cant imagine what that says about some others). In any case, i'm going there tomorrow at noon and i'll see what they have to say! I'll let ya know and i'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip

im a hundred percent sure the tc has no driveshaft.. driveshafts are only used on rwd cars.. lol! it connects the tranny to the rear-end/differential.. fwd cars dont have one bec. final drive is in the transaxle itself..

yea.. so yea.. if its a clunk on acceleration suspect the cv axle...

Well the car is at the dealer now and I shouted the guy out for saying it was the driveshaft b/c he was acting like a know-it-all and giving me a hard time. Anyway, i took the foreman out for a ride and he seems to think something with an engine mount of a rubber something or other (just hypothesizing). I'll let ya know when I get the car back, I made them give me a loaner, so I may not get it back until tomorrow night, but we'll see! (since they are paying, i'm sure they want to get it done)

Alright, so I just got the car back, and they seem to have fixed the clunk. Luckily, it was not the cv axle or anything serious like that. It was actually the air box and the tube going into it (on the side away from the engine). It was loose and wedged out of place, hence knocking the air box slightly out of place. Anyway, they fixed it all up and put some padding between the air box and the strut bar. Pretty ghetto fix it seems to me, but its not clunking anymore!
