Default Older tC needs help

I’ve been lurking here for some time but have not posted much. I bought a Scion tC brand new in September of ’04 but have neglected to do anything special to the car. In fact it now has 120,000 miles of commuting into downtown Detroit on it. I want to keep the car for another 120,000 miles and need to do something about the suspension. It has the original shocks and struts (sad, I know) and I want to replace it with something better than the usual stock replacement parts. I don’t mind a rougher ride but I truly hesitate to lower a car with the potholes we have in this part of the country.

What would your ultimate commuter suspension be? I don’t mind spending $1,200 dollars but I don’t want to waste money on adjustment I don’t need. I have always had excellent luck with Bilsteins but no one seems to know anything about them when it comes to the tC.

if you don't want to lower too much, get TRD struts and springs. it give you around 1.25inch lower.

I heard TRD coilovers are one of the softest in the market and you can have it any height you want.

TRD struts and springs. If you want to adjust ride height then either TRD coils or H&R coils but the TRD struts and springs is a moderate drop and really no difference in overall ride quality.

You sound like the perfect candidate for the TRD springs and struts like the others said. IT will be a bit lower, handle well and not be overly agressive so the ride isnt going to be a ton worse. TRD sparks probably still has the best price on those.

I thought that might be to much drop. How much suspension travel is there anyway?

Thanks BTW for the input.

You'd be fine with TRD springs & struts. very moderate drop. Honestly, don't worry too much about the drop, I'm on s-techs which is a far bigger drop than TRD's and the roads here are horrible as well. I haven't had a single problem yet, so you would definitely be fine with a moderate drop like the TRD's

TRD struts and H&R springs work really well too. A little lower from stock height and the ride isnt bad at all.
