you shouldnt by anything expensive if you dont use brakes in racing (slaloms etc.)
however if you are tempted to attend a trackday (at least once), you should buy some more durable stuff (greenstuff for instance), otherwise your stock pads will heat and have the same braking abilities as cheese.
also i think theres no need to resurface the disks, if they dont vibrate when braking hard at high speeds (if you feel vibration on the brake pedal when braking from 60mph, u should have it done).

i've seen people go for over 75K miles on the stock pads, some people less than 30K.
i like the centrics.

First thing's first... like mentioned - LOOK at your pads. See if they're actually low. Chances are they're still good. I replaced mine (voluntarily) around 60k and they had a LOT of life left.
Secondly, if you're not doing any hard driving (autox, track days, etc) just stick with the OEM pads. They are actually pretty decent - and as you can tell, they last quite a while.
Thirdly... if your rotors are still fairly smooth, don't touch them. If you have pits, cracks, or some warping or something, just get new OEM ones... they're not that expensive and do the job just fine.

^ I agree, EBC greenstuff were the best pads I've ever had. They do take a bit of time to get used to, as they take a lot less pedal pressure to grab, compared to stock pads.
