Default This is ridiculous

So I went to maintenance and the dealer wanted to charge me 169 for new FRONT brake pads and labor....im not dumb you can get pads for 50-60 dollars so where do they get off charging 100 for the labor?

I took it somewhere else and the guy changed my brake pads and what not. Next day I drive the car and it SQUEALS every time i gently step on the brake pedal. I've heard of pads squealing when they're worn out, but when they are brand new??? Idk if maybe the mechanic did something wrong but its ridiculous everytime i step on the brake i squeal pretty darn loud.

ok first off relax. Dealership charges more for everything! Seccond depending on the brake pad some pads squeel the whole life of the pad to some degree. Also often new pads will squeel especially if they require to be seated and weren't seated correctly. Dont freak out give it some time to break in. Do a few hard stops from 45mph that might help.

the dealer also cuts your rotors so the pads seat properly.

did you get semi metallic or ceramics? Semi-Metallic will squeak once in awhile.

$169 is not bad. My dealer, which is the largest in the nation charges $220 (discounted). It includes resurfacing the rotors which should also be done when changing brake pads. The reason why dealers charge more is because they are well trained in toyotas and they only use oem toyota parts.
Your new brakes are probably sqealing because they were installed incorrectly or because you weren't using oem pads or you didn't resurface the rotors. Have your dealer check it out.
PS- i learned the hard way.

dealership -> stealership lol.
new-car dealerships make more money from maintainence/repairs than from selling cars. they also have to pay their technicians more than repair shops because the manufacturer often requires specially trained and certified technicians/mechanics (who demand higher pay for their professional training). dealerships are also bigger organizations that small repair shops, so they have much more overhead. its all economics son.

169 isn't bad. I just paid 260 or 300 for new pads, rotors, and fluid. I was thinking 500 before taking the car. I planned paying 1,000 for 60k maintenance and new brakes. But only walked out with 830 bill.

Sides I like going to my dealer. They haven't screwed up yet. And they told me coolant flush and new spark plugs won't be needed until 140k mark. When my last 10 minute oil change shop visit tried doing it at 50k. And they will still "Wash" (hose off) my car even a in nasty snow storm. They also wanted to change my wiper blades but since I use Bosch Ion's; they couldn't. I guess my dealer started that freebee service.
