Default stoopid quesjun?

i got my trd shocks delivered today, and i noticed the box was pretty beaten up. they're packed in bubble wrap, each in its own box inside one big box, and the edges of the shock housings had penetrated all the packaging. i turned one of fronts over and heard a trickling liquid sound. i wondered if that was normal, so i tried to compress the shock, and i did. there was little to no resistance. thinking that was odd, i found the same on the other front and both rears, although the rears were a bit harder to compress. my stupid question is this: IS THIS NORMAL?!?! i know i'm probably worried over nothing, but i want to be sure before i install them. thanks in advance, everyone!

the front set should be harder to compress as they're the ones handling more weight, are you sure you dint mix up the pairs?

as for the box, don't worry about it, its goign to take more than that to mess up a good set of coils.

thanks for the response. i'm sure i didn't get them mixed. there's a huge difference between the front strut and rear shock, and since i had both assemblies out when i installed the springs, i know the difference. i'm probably just being paranoid, and they're probably fine. i'll wait till i pull of the stock ones and see what they do. thanks again.

boxes of parts most of the time are crappy especially if you got them with good discounts lol. My tein coils came too with the edges sticking out of the box lol but it was fine, my tsudo N1 too came with a crappy box very beaten up like it was used 10times already and wrapped with dusty bubble wraps haha but all was good.

yeah, i know what you mean. i've had some pretty crappy looking boxes delivered, but the trd shocks came in the original packaging from trd. each piece was packed in bubble wrap inside its own box, and the individual boxes all came in a larger box. it looked really nice, except for the edges of the struts sticking through the side.

If you can compress them COMPLETELY, then you have a major problem. Think of it this way, each corner of the tC supports around 700 lbs or so. If you can compress them, imagine what 700 lbs would do to them.

i can compress all 4 of them completely. it takes some effort, but i can compress each one with just my weight. to be clear, you know i'm talking about only the shocks here, right? i don't have any springs on them. i imagine the springs would take much of the load, and the shocks are just to dampen the movement of the springs. i find it hard to believe all 4 brand new trd shocks are bad. they don't look like they've been installed before, and i bought them from a reputable dealer (sparks toyo). i'm just not sure if that's normal. i'll shoot sparks an email tomorrow, and i'll give my mechanic a call to see what he thinks. thanks, guys.

I can compress my Koni's completely without to much issue. that's how they are designed...the shocks just dampen the impacts where as the springs determins the height of the car and produces the rebound.
I think your fine.

good ol beaten box syndrome.... i have gotten some beaten up boxes in my day...my springs came with the box pretty much just mangled...and prolly 1/3 of what i get at work(usually at least 15 a day) is the same way...i think they just make the boxes look like that to pysch you out

im sure theyre good...
