Default flat tire / warranty

Hi,

First off, I'm pretty ignorant about cars, so don't laugh too hard.

I have a 2007 tc, a few days ago, the tire pressure light went on. When I checked the pressure a day or two later, one of the tires had lost about 10 PSI, so I figured there was a small leak. I added air and went on my way... Later that day, the tire's flat when I get to the car; I put in the spare and now comes the questions..

I didn't see any big nails or things like that sticking out of the tire, so could this be covered under warranty? I've had the car about 1 month.

If it's not under warranty, is it safe to have the tire repaired at some random place? I don't want them screwing up the tire pressure sensor.. Likewise, if the tire can't be repaired and I have to buy new ones, will a place like Costco know how to transfer the sensor? My understanding is that any servicing at the dealership is going to be overpriced...

Take it back to the dealership where you purchased it from. Tell them that you don't see any damage to the tire and see if they can check it. How long ago did you get the car and how many miles do you have on it?

I wouldn't worry about the TMPS system too much - it's on the wheel itself, not the tire.

had it for around a month, 1400 miles... I guess I need to go over the user manual ... Don't they take off the tire to repair punctures? I figured that would expose the sensor and open up the chance of it being knocked around

If it is due to a deformed bead on the tire or a tire defect, the new tire warranty should cover it as a defect. If for some reason, the wheel is the issue (doubt it) then the vehicle warranty could cover it. If they find a puncture, then it will not be warrantied, but will be fairly cheap if it is repairable.

They do take off the tire (if they do it right), but as long as the tire shop is aware that the 07 tC has a sensor in the wheel they shouldnt ever damage it.

you also should check for a bend in the rim as that could cause a leak also
