Hey ya, I currently have the terrible Potenzas. I have stock suspension and I don't drive hard.
however, I want to plan ahead early and get some cheap rims with decent tires for the winter time. (or should I wait till winter for the sales?)

I priced out 4 cheap rims with 4 Winter tires (I don't remember the brand, around $100 each)
It came to over $1k! is that what I'm supposed to pay? Are your serious?

Help me out, I'm kind of clueless when it comes to Tires and Rims,

I'd just try to pick up another set of OEM wheels if I were you. You can usually get a set fairly cheap from eBay or the classifieds here. Then, don't worry about specifically snow tires, I'd go with a decent all season... Pirelli PZero Nero M/S come to mind...

 

Tires.com has the Pzeros at $128 each, with free shipping, and a $50 rebate on a set of 4. So you're looking at about $462 shipped for the set (after your rebate).
