Default Opinions on MSR wheels / Triangle Talon tires

I just got one hell of a deal. A friend of a friend wanted to trade me the wheels and tires on his Matrix for my stockies (+cash). Lets just say it was too good to pass up.

The wheels are MSR 105's, 18x7.5.

And the tires are Triangle Talons, 225/40-18. I think the treadwear is 360, Z rated.

The deals already done, so they're on my car (an SSM tC). Looks awesome, pics to come, but my question is, what is the quality like on both the tires and wheels? I'm very sure the tires are leaps above the RE92s. The wheels are 25lbs each, so about 2-4 above the 17's. Definitley feels a tad slower on the top-end, but the better tires seem to help a launch.

Opinions?

why would you want something worse than stock?

Though they may look awesome, they do nothing to improve the performance of your car, at least nothing that I can think of, but actually degrade performance. Those heavier wheels will negatively effect acceleration(like you mentioned), braking, ride, handling and even gas mileage. They are nice looking though, especially the polished lip. I have never heard anything specific about those MSR wheels, but I do have a friend that had a MSR wheel crack on him on the edge of the wheel. How it happened, I do not know. The fact that they cracked though rather than bent makes me question the quality. As far as the tires, I have never even heard of Triangle tires before. Judging by the higher treadwear rating of the tires however, technically they are not going to grip as well as the stock Potenza's.

MSR wheels are very poor when it comes to structural integrity, i have seen alot of those at the wheel shop i goto in the junk pile with cracked lips, and one guy acutally had a hole in the center of the rim, he ran over a rock it must have been a big **** rock, but it punctured his tire and put a hole in the rim.....
I would have stuck with the stock set up and just bought better tires......
never even heard of the tires you got with the rims.
360 treadware is a very hard compound, they will last a long time but done expect any performance value from them.

In all honesty, I probably gave the wrong impression. Performance is a nice thing to have, but it was more of a "looks" purchase for me. The car is fast enough for what I want it to do, at least for now.

The figure listed on the website is "360AA" under column U.T.Q.G.... i just assumed that it was treadwear. No matter. Tires get replaced over time anyway.

Sorry to hear the wheel quality isn't so topnotch either. I guess I'll just have to be a little more careful.

360 is the treadware.......
If your carefull i doubt you will have any issues, watch the curbs and the potholes and for gods sake dont speed in the rain you will have mediocre wet performance with that treadware.
they do look good dont get me wrong.
