Default Question about tires

Hello Everyone,

So I bought wheels:

18" VSR Steelers

My dealer said I need 225/40/18, and then 92-88 W ZR, which I have no idea what that second part means.

So I have found a few places to get tires, one is Facebook, anyway, here they are:

http://www.facebook.com/marketplace/...id=12273446881

Are these decent, I have no ideas about tires....

I don't want to spend much, I'm lookin at eBay too, cheap.

Suggestions?!?! All help needed and appreciated.

Try HERE. I got my Kumhos for cheap there.
Also, look under the "INFO CENTER" header. It will answer your ?s about tires and their numbers more precisely.

NO NO NO! do NOT get thoes tires off facebook, they are trash. look at the edgewear, the owners alignment is horrible and thoes tires are trash. and the "92-88 W" thats the speed rating. so the dealer reccomends you have a W rating. the later in the alphebet the letter (W X Y Z) the higher the speed rating. meaning they will hold up better at higher speeds. call your local tire store and ask them what speeds the W rated tires are good at. they can tell you. itll be somewhere near 100-130 MPH i think

the number 92-88, is bacwwards, it should be from 88 to 92, it refers to the load index, or simple put the amount of weight each tire can support.

92 load index = 1389 lbs per tire. Here is a link to the tire rack about that
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=35

also, the W and ZR are actually speed ratings. Z-speed ratings are 150mph+, where W is 186mph. Now we all know the tC would NEVER get to 150mph!! hahaha.. but it's talking more about the construction of the tire to put up with such high speeds. That leads to a tire that is stiffer to withstand such temperatures and stress. This also leads to a tire that is more responsive to the road. That's why Z-rated tires were stock on our car.

also in the link i pasted above, it also describes how the Z, W, Y speed ratings are broken down. W and Y are actually an extension of the Z-speed rating. So you will sometimes see ZR (for z-rated) then the load index 92W. For load index of 92, and a speed rating of W (since W rated tires are capable of higher speeds that Z-rated, confusing I know).

Hope that helps. Also don't get your tires from facebook. You're just asking for problems. I personally think Toyo Proxes4's are good, but it all depends on what you want to do and where you drive (all-seasons or summer only tires). Get the tires from a reputable place, they are all that keeps the car on the pavement.
