why get 215s over 225s? whats the advantage there? I'd figure 225s would be better...no?

Wrong on both points. What is that saying, better to keep one's mouth shut and be thought an idiot, rather than open it and prove the point?

With 7" wide wheels, the 215 will be a better fit and the OD will be the same as stock keeping the speedo reading right. Also, a good tire like the Azenis RT615 in 215 will have more grip than say a BFG KDW2 in 225. A 215 will also offer better gas mileage and weigh less.

instigator is about right, you should get a year to 18 monthes....that is why i said 10k, but in reality it may be more like 12-15k depending on your driving style.

Costco has a sale right now on BFGoodrich KDW.

$60 off set of 4

215/45-17 = $143.99 installed

225/45-17 = $143.99 installed however it's not the manufacturer's size so they won't mount it on your car. However some Costco's may mount it on the rim but you have to put it on your car yourself and if there is ever a problem with your tire you have to bring the tire/wheel in by itself. I think it's a legal thing.

$516 for 4 after discount before tax which is a pretty good deal considering Costco includes their Road Hazzard warranty in that price. I'm personally a big fan of those tires.

so what are the "disadvantages" of the stock potenzas?

this may sound stupid, but.. better tires = better acceleration performance?
like say, if i'm driving uphill.. will i be able to grip more on the surface and accelerate faster than with the stock potenzas? i'm really lagging on uphills.. or is this completely irrelevant to tires, and based on engine performance?

Stickier tires will only help in that scenario if your stock tires are slipping. If your stock tires aren't slipping, then all the available power is being put to use effectively.

I have gone through Nankangs NS-2's and then switched to Kumhos 712 Supras and honestly I got what I paid for-cheap a$$ tires! I finally decided to get the Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3's and I couldnt be happier. Best ride I ever had on a tire, smooth, quiet, and now I have no problem letting the supercharger rip through some asphalt. True they are pricey but get a good alignment, balance, and rotate them every 5k and they will last you as long as any other tire out there. Definitly worth it IMO.

I think I paid about $177 per on my Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s but I bought them for my 18" D5Rs. You guys don't get much rain down in Cali so I'm not sure you'll see the major improvements I did. Up in Seattle where we get tons of rain at times, I love these things over the OEM Bridgestones. I'd hydro all over the place on those and with the Exaltos, you can feel the road and the tire evacuating the water as you drive through standing water. I think one tire rated higher than my Exaltos for wet handling; the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s. My gf has them on her IS300 and you can't hear much road noise from them. The KDW2s from BF Goodrich are much louder but handle well. Check out some of the head to head testing from Tirerack.com I found it to be extremely helpful. Beyond this, Car and Driver had a recent review on Ultra High Performance Summer Tires you might want to check out.
