Default Winter Tire Sizes

Okay, I wanna prep up for winter. I have a set of stocks with bald tires, and Enkei 7's with summer tires. Obviously I DON'T wanna run my Super 7's in the winter, so I decided to get winter tires on my stocks.

Question is, is it bad to run 215/50/R17 winter tires on stocks? What are the pros and cons of a 50 wall instead of a 45 wall? Pros and cons of 215 width and 205 width?

I've been looking at the Michelin X-Ice Xi2, and the closest size they have are 215/50/R17 and price would be $450 shipped from TireRack. Good deal?

Will that throw off alignment? odometer? Also, I'm on stock suspension if that might bother with rubbing and what not. Thanks, greatly appreciated.

you'll be alright..215/50/17 that's a bit taller then our stock tires.. It will raise your car up a bit if your lower'd... which is good in winter time.. not sure about the tires, but I was thinking of getting the same size in Goodyear Assurance TripleTred... I hear good thing about it..

good luck..
Keith.

tirerack recommends 215/45 for 17s, but the if you get the 215/50 it shouldnt hurt anything.

215/45-17 Thats the size you want for a snow tire on the stock wheel. I've never gotten stuck with the blizzak ws-50 (replace with the Ws60 last year), nothing like passing 4wd trucks/SUVs that can't make it up a hill covered in heavy wet snow. The look on their faces are priceless.
