I work at a foundry... and people there always say a certain job is 'gravy' .... which I have come to find means easy, money-maker, delicious.
This is the only confusion of the word gravy I have found myself in.
What do you mean by gravy? Good? Cheap? ;p

Just to keep a placeholder... and to show I haven't taken sides!

I have no idea what a crank pulley is... or any of the math between it.. or if it does anything for an automatic....
But then again... I haven't read the previous 7 pages... so here I go!

Well then... looks decent. Still no sure what it does... still haven't read up on it. ;p
I await the info about the group buy!
And if no group buy... then this goes on my 2012 list!

Did you watch them do the whole install from start to finish? Do you know how a dyno works and how to set it up? Did you watch then setup and configure the dyno? Are you a mechanic? That is, if they did any other tuning, like re-program the ECU would you recognize it and know that they did that? I would like a 3rd party validation of the claimed HP gains…that is a lot and tough to swallow. Although I’ve seen stranger things; 5-HP gain from replacing the bronze bushing in the end of the crankshaft with a needle bearing for the transmission input shaft in a Datsun 510.

The mass that Mike is alluding to needs to be in the form of a harmonic balancer and not fix like this pulley is to work. ATI makes one that works… http://www.atiracing.com/products/dampers/charts/damtoyota.htm

Is this crank pulley slightly smaller in diameter? That would explain the HP gains.

watch them install no. while they were working on the car. we were in the duno area running another car. as far as working the dyno. it was my first time even being near one. but i do know enough to know they did not mess with my ecu. no reprogramming. nothing. just plug, played, then unplugged. mike and i wouldnt lie about these gains. even him and all the guys that were there and seen the sheets were stunned about how much hp/tq the pulley frees up. i want to say the only thing different between the oem and nst pulley is the weight. as far as being smaller in diameter. i dont think it is, but then again im not 100% sure

While I don't think anyone at NST is overly concerned about our skepticism, I'm more than happy to make the most of this and be the objective 3rd party. Shoot me a prototype pulley, I'll get it professionally installed and dyno'd. Then you'll also have the numbers for a manual transmission car.

And, yes, I'm qualified to "test" it. Professional training in aircraft, munitions and robotic maintenance along with years of experience in operational and developmental testing of all of the above. I'll even bring my buddy who is a certified auto mechanic (and roller coaster mechanic which is way cool, but not relevant) in case there is any doubt that I'd know what I was looking at.

Am I the only one that sees this? It’s just screaming at me! OK…your first try of copying and replacing the metal reduced the mass that gained you 20-HP…what will reducing the mass to 10-oz to 15-oz get you? Will reducing the mass to 10-oz get you 30-HP? Everybody is cool with the 20-HP…I’ll take 20-HP and not interested in 30 for $5 more…

I can design a pulley that weighs 10-oz…will that get you 30-HP? I don’t know.

Mike, do you want to play? My offer still stands…

So why don't you just make one to your specs? Dyno it and post the results? You clearly have the ability and know how as seen on the brackets for the bbk you installed. Than you could sell your pulleys to a company or sell them yourself. Just asking

I know you looked at my thread…but by this comment I know you have not read my thread. In that thread I has mentioned that I got 2 bids from machine shops...if I had my own machine shop, why would I go out for bids?

You are right, I have the knowhow, I don’t have a machine shop…that is why my offer to Mike.

I read it. What I ment was sell the design to a company other than NST or have them manufactured at a machine shop and than you could sell them yourself. All said and done Id like to see it done your way and compare the results to see if there is any improvement. But for now I'm going with the current one they are going to put into production. But like I said a comparison would be nice.

u know what i would want...

can NST create some sort of installation guide? possibly with pictures?

the difficulty (easy or hard) should be very helpful to those that are thinking of purchasing it now on the group buy
