Injen uses a small tube within the intake by the maf. What this does is allows the same amount of flow to pass through the intake but only allows the maf to see so much. This leans out the a/f mixture which is where they are getting there power. I will be using the descendant piece myself once this is out

Where is Descendant getting the power from? I'm no vehicle engineer, but I don't see the Descendant exhaust having that much more air than the stock intake, let alone the Injen intake. I'm probably missing something obvious, but I sure can't think of what it is...

Haven't seen it yet but once its out I'll let you know. Most likely using bigger piping and good filter placement. But I don't have a dyno nor have I seen their intake so hard for me to say now. But the injen would have made more power then stock even without tricking the maf I'm sure. It was just something they did to get more on top of the original gain of the intake

That leads me to 2 more questions.

1. Would tricking the MAF (thus providing inaccurate data to the ECU) potentially reduce the effectiveness of other upgrades? Especially ones involving the ECU? (kinda like blowing on a fire to get it going. A little is good. Too much and you snuff out the flame)

2. Does that also mean the Injen will likely give the purchaser more bolt-on power than the Descendant? (because it's tricking the MAF)

Enjoy the intake. I'm not trying to rip on Injen, I'm trying to learn the science behind the magic of intakes. And it's not like Injen is just some hack company no one has ever heard of.

In all fairness, you can look at the tube as a shady way to add power with their intake or a cheap way to do it. Won't hurt the reliability of your car and if it does negatively affect the ECU, just remove it and you still have a very nice SRI.

Ok so with ecu tuning your most likely ggoing to tune your car based on monitoring your afr's which means if it makes you go lean and you then get it tuned then you can richen up the mixture (well your tuner can). Now as far as power. You might peak out an extra couple horsepower but your going lean to do it which is not good. In all honesty you won't notice a difference or even be faster then another with an injen over a descendant. Their are more benefits to an intake then just peak numbers. And there are a lot of factors when getting an intake. Its a lot to go through. If you want you can give me a call and I'll just answer any questions you have

Guess that makes sense. I'm obviously a little curious about the other benefits of the air filter, but we can save that discussion for another day. Needless to say, I'm gonna wait a bit before buy an intake.

is it worth it to get a tune with only an intake and exhaust installed?

Just called descendant/world racing to inquire about their 'Spring Special.' apparently it's a discount on any purchase but I didn't ask exactly what kind of discount since I got distracted asking about their intake for the 2011 tC. They told me that they are not making a short-ram intake for production at the moment. After testing, they said they didn't obtain significant gains over the stock airbox so they are opting to put a cold-air intake into production first since they have tested it for gains. The Cold Air Intake is said to come out in 2-3 weeks while the Short Ram Intake is on hold indefinitely.
