A short block is the pistons, rods, and crank... You're thinking of a new head...

While they're about the same cost, they are completely different parts of the engine...

A head is the cams, valves, springs, retainers and the actual piece of metal they go into.

Also take the valve cover off and make sure everything is aligned. If anything, you might have moved a valve or spring. Those are ~$15 to 20 USD a piece to replace.

My guess is bent exhaust valve(s)...do a compression check on the engine to rule that out. Look it up, I won't explain how to do it here.

Well, the valve lifters were unseated and not at their original position, well that' s what I understood from the mechanic. They fixed it and performed my 1st service on the car. Total 50$.

/me a happy camper

This is what happened to me. The car came with a defective transmission from factory they replaced it and similar to you I downshifted(while rev-matching) from 5th to 3rd and boom. Metal on metal noise no power I thought I blew the engine. They were "kind" enough to fix it for since it was part of the original repair but, that was after they accused me of racing, over-revving, and missing a shift.

Wow you're a lucky ______. My case was not that serious. They didn't accuse me of anything tough, they only asked if I redlined it a couple of times, and I said 'yes, but not like an idiot'. haha!

Good Will Warranty!!! Look at you! Congrats.
Its seems like you really did a number to your Top End. Things were melted and laying everywhere. I'm surprised it was driveable. I guess your car is really "broken in" now.

So I was driving the other day on the interstate, shifting from 3rd to 4th and accidentally hit 2nd and over revved just like you. Exhaust is much quieter now and seems muffled and has an extreme loss of power. No weird noises, no check engine light. I've been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. I'm going to take off the valve cover and see if what's wrong with mine is the same thing that's wrong with yours.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I did the same thing last night shifting from 3rd to 4th. I hit 2nd rev'd to 8k I slammed the clutch back in. So I thought the Rev limmiter would kick in to prevent this from happening. My car has the same symptoms that everyone else has mentioned loss in power, subaruish exhaust tone, no CELs.

Engine at idle and with 1500-1800 rpm revs i cant hear any knocking or odd sounds. I haven't tried the ECU reset yet.

Yeah, you flipped the lifters dude. Every 10 tC's have this. It happens all too easily.

The rev limiter cannot prevent the engine from overrevving when you money shift. You've got your engine physically connected to your transmission in the wrong gear, forcing the engine to spin too fast. The rev limiter only limits revs by cutting fuel...but cutting fuel won't stop the engine from overrevving if the transmission is forcing it to.

I feel like that was poorly articulated lol.

Open up the valve cover and contemplate the nastiness. Should be an easy fix.
