hahaha i love how everyone uses wikipedia to prove a point even though it could have been anyone writing the post. i do believe it though since were talking about a space that will have a constant airflow... while driving a least ha I guess this just means he should only spend 4 to 5 hrs driving at a time if this "mod" is done
And for the wiki haters here are 2 from Government websites.

I don’t think it will smell bad, I looked today; the area of the Descendant exhaust where you would do this is very near the rear, under the cargo hatch, and about 10-12 inches rear of the rear seats.
I currently live in a state that has NO vehicle inspection what so ever. If people can ride around in V8 trucks with no pipes, and old Buicks with true exhaust leaks day after day, and be fine, (I see it daily) I seriously doubt there will be any negative effects. Co2 is what hurts you, and is basically caused when the engine does not burn all the gas in the camber. Which engine do you think burns cleaner and more efficient: a 1999 ford V8 truck with 100k+ miles, or a 2011+ Scion tC with less than 50k on it?
I’m still not saying it’s a great idea, what I am saying is, it is not as bad as some people are insinuating.
VVTinme, please keep the personal attacks to the yoursciontc forum where people just argue and fight; this is the Scionlife tC2 area, where we help each other and not belittle people for ideas they have.

Well, the "washer" idea is a bad one. If you want loud and deep. Get the weapon R header and then add a large resonator on the exhaust. It should still be loud and deep... And you don't have to worry about safety of yourself or our planet.
Durp, I could be wrong on this, but I am 99% sure the header removes the catalytic convert, which is what "cleans" the exhaust gases. So if you are worried about the planet, that is NOT the way to go. The washers would be installed at the rear of the cat and resignator and wont remove any emissions equipment. Safety is the only concern.
exhaust leaks??? really??? you need 3 things for this it make a huge difference...1 sawzall, 2 welder with stainless steel wire instead of copper im asuming your exhaust is stainless, 3 depending how long your resonator is a 1 to 2 foot piece of 2.25in exhaust tubing...take off piece of exhaust with resonator (midpipe), cut the resonator out at both ends, slide 2.25 piece of exhaust tube in resonator and weld at both ends, finally weld midpipe back together and reinstall.
@Druidiron, you are correct but I was mainly providing a solution. I was basically stating that it would be a better alternative to an open exhaust leak. Haha I am in no way a tree hugger either. Just to get rid of any assumptions.
It was a simple joke sir.
