Default Opinion on STS turbo Kit

I came across a article about STS turbo it's rear mounted turbo system that claims to get more WHP per pound of boast than front mounts kits. My thing is if it was sooo good why can't I find videos or articles about this kit with the import market Scion Honda etc. if any one is familiar with this kit shed some light on the subject pro or cons if possible.

I've heard of them and saw them on many muscle cars camaros and trans ams mostly not sure exactly how they work you'd have to do an entire custom build prob not enough exhaust back pressure on a 4 banger

Rear mounted turbo's are common when you lack engine bay room. FWD imports don't have that issue.

Yeah, also if you're lowered, you don't want your expensive turbo that low and vulnerable to speed bumps. Or risk sucking up water on a rainy day.

they work a lot better on high displacement engines (big v6/v they aren't very practical for 4 cylinder engines

Some dude on here had it on his tc1. His car did not put down much power. He had a video on youtube too, I rather get a front mount setup for more power to the wheels.

I understand that it is more common on bigger engines but turbo is turbo no matter where it's located. I seen a threat talking bout this type of kit but no real solid answer. So it was time for some investigating I gave STS a call and spoke with there sale guy Ben because I wanted to know if they very boasted any imports. He said that they did couple import but not as much as domestic cars. Im in the south florida area he said a local brother shop did a install I'm waiting to get the videos so I get see for my self if this kit is even a contender vs descendant and other front mounts.

A turbo is a turbo at the end of the day, but how it functions based on its location is where it differs. STS, you will have turbo lag due to the turbo being further away from the output of the exhaust gases, then you have charge pipes that are long thus increasing travel time to the intercooler, then into the intake manifold.

If you go STS your going to spend more than buying a bolt on kit from ptuning or dezod ( descendants out of the scion game) and ontop of that you will make less power and not even be able to show off your turbo unless its on a lift rofl it's pointless other than to be different and having a turbo tc makes you different enough as it is not alot of guys turbo these if you look at the ratio of Na/boosted lol

I would consider our kit any day over an STS kit.

I wasn't siding with the STS over front mounts kits. I'm just the type person that need to do research and questions all things. Lol. I didn't know descendant no longer doing kits for us, I've been off SL for a while now.

Nothing wrong with that you end up with a better build and understanding

Having a sleeper look (minus intercooler) is pretty cool, but STS isn't worth it in the end like you said. Not a lot of people boost the tC2 because it is still new. I am still skeptical about boosting mine because I haven't read enough supporting information as to how strong the stock long block is.

Only issue I see with a side mount is adequate air flow.

And the above picture, where is the charge pipe?

Unless you make holes it won't flow that well, even then with holes you won't get as adequate flow as you would with a front mount.
