Alpine Head Unit Defect
I went for my 5,000 miles service on June 16th. They ordered a new unit (they say) and I've yet to hear back from them. I'm going on a trip Thursday night and would like it fixed by then. I will be calling to ask about it in the morning..
Man, you guys we're right, what a difference. Before when it was on TC mode and on the Natural EQ curve it sounded muffled, distorted, crappy. Now you can crank it, and feel the thump. HD radio sounds even better now. I'm glad I made the effort to have the dealer do a swap out....
I'm actually sitting at the dealer now. I called at the beginning of last week and they said they'd call back when they found out something. They did call a little later and said that it should be in this past Monday and that they'd call and schedule a time. I ended up calling yesterday and they said it was here. So here I am, getting it installed. Yay!
i have the Alpine on mine set for Natural sound and TC mode... I notice the high frequencies get reduced in the khz output when the volume is in the high 50s and 60s... the high Frequencies sound normal anywhere from the mid 50s on below. This is also with the treble at max.
I've gotten around to playing with this Alpine premium headunit and its an ok unit. Id still prefer aftermarket although I'm not complaining since it came with my car used.
I have a few test tracks that are 1000khz, 10000khz, 15000khz. Each are a solid sine wave at 0db and last a good 3min. This unit starts to clip when the volume is at 54. This is at Flat Bass and Treble with no other sound effects enabled.
I made an appointment with Toyota tomorrow this way I can explain to them the whole situation and get it changed out for the fully functioning unit with the TM on the model#.

Just a little update here. They have finally sent out a TSB for the radio issue. So anyone who hasnt gotten it fixed yet, I would go to the dealership and tell them that there is a TSB on the radio. Got mine fixed no problem, No questions asked. Hope this helps guys!
^ Nope. I'm sure there is an exchange the dealership has to make with the old one. Since it should just be a matter of re-flashing the firmware, Toyota will take your old one, update it, and use it for the next exchange.
Well, you do have both 6x9 speakers working, so I'd guess yes. Though I never had volume issues even before the fix. It just sounded terrible when I turned up the volume.
Well, called my dealer on Saturday to schedule an appointment for my 15k maintenance and told them I wanted to get my radio swapped. Was very explicit citing there was a TSB out, gave them my part number, the updated radio part number and described the problem to them. Tuesday I called to confirm my appointment for Wednesday and they said they would have to see the radio themselves before they would order the replacement and I would have to come back to get it changed out. Fine, whatever. Yesterday I took in the car and described the problem again to the guy handling my service since he inquired about the note they put in my file.
As soon as he came back to tell me the car was done he said they couldn't hear a problem with the passenger side speaker and that they wouldn't replace it because it would look bad on them by Toyota Corp. if they replaced a, "$1000 part" when it was actually working fine. Absurd! He said to bring it back up if it was happening in 10k miles.
What have people been doing when they've reached a road block in getting their DEFECTIVE (*sigh*) radio exchanged?

I had ZERO problems here in Atlanta getting the unit replaced. There is an official bulletin out on this, so it should not be a problem. I would go to another dealer, and/or complain to the regional manager. That run-around you're getting is not acceptable.
