DRL Relay wires
hey all!
New 2011 Scion tC owner here.
Want to add DRL lights to my car. Does anyone know anywhere that sells a relay wire system that turns off the DRL when the headlights come on?
I've searched eBay and was only able to find DRL relays where the lights will be constantly on when the car is on.
Any help is appreciated!

You can do this yourself with a standard relay.
12v+ ignition to pin 30
12v+ headlight switch on to pin 86
12v- to pin 85
DRL wire to pin 87a
Headlights wire to pin 87
With this the DRL will come on with the key, but will turn off with the headlight switch turned on, headlights will come on, both will turn off with the key.
Check polarity on the wires to make sure it's a +12v, some newer cars are going to switching grounds.

Thanks burtont62! Your help is greatly appreciated!
I'm having a bit of a problem understanding the wiring. I see the #s on the relay. I'm just not too sure how the wires go.
when you mean 86 and 87... 86 goes to switch, 87 goes to headlight. I can't splice that together, it must pass through the relay, correct? (sorry, i'm a total n00b to this)
is there a way I can draw the power directly from the battery?

That is the same wire cut in half, so it must go through the relay.

If you get power directly from the battery then the DRL or headlights would always be on. Regardless of key on/off or even in the car. So no, you must use a 12v+ switched.

Test the larger wires coming down out of the steering column with a multimeter. Sorry I don't know the wiring colors for the scion, I haven't even worked on mine yet. You can also google "scion wiring diagram" and go from there. I'll look into it later today. Got to be at work in 20 min.
