2011 Scion tC engine "tick" ??? Video inside.....
Trying to figure what it could possibly be?? Heard water pumps go bad that sound like this but my buddy insists its a lift valve

That is valve-train noise (not good). I'd head straight to the dealer and get that checked before anything really bad happens. You could have a worn lobe on the cam or some other physical damage. Either way, go get it fixed under warrantee.
Oh geez so it is a pretty serious issue? Ive heard the tcs having loud almost ticking noise problems but mine is absolutely 100% audible so it gets my attention. What could cause this? And is there any precautions I could take until I get it into the dealer this weekend? They checked it out once before and said that somethin was loose but after i drove it off the lot it was still making this noise, IDK it s just horible when you can hear it over the exhaust even then when acceleration you cud here the tick right along with the exhaust note
If you've already been in once, then take it to the same dealer and tell them you want the issue resolved. Valve train issues in these engines (especially when it's that loud) is nothing that can be 'adjusted'. It could be a bad injector or valve guide or CAM lobe...whatever it is, I wouldn't wait till the weekend. I'd call the dealer and get it in sooner rather than later.

Damn, yea cuz i have been running it just because I figured it was normal but after this I will def call to take care of this in the morning. :/ Could this cause the car to be more sluggish? Ay yi yi Well now im full of worries haha! Thank you for the replies senzai I will def call asap to get this checked out!
sounds valve tranesk. it sounds like a missing pin or a ground down cam lob. in some angles it sounds like a exhaust leak but it could be the audio. is there a check engine light or a notice in power loss.
I’m thinking it’s a hydraulic lifter. In between the cam and valve you have a hydraulic lifter, they can go bad and collapse and not push on the valve enough. This would give you a bad ticking and decrease in power. It’s an easy fix, a bit hard to find some times, and not that expensive. Under warranty they should fix it.
That's my bet.
That's my bet.
I had the exact same noise coming from my 2011 tc as well. I took it into the dealership and they said it was a cam gear problem and it was fixed under warranty. If you search on this forum you could find the thread that I posted about it. It was probably in December ish
These cars that are overhead cams dont have lifter. It goes from cam, to the rocker assembly and to the valves. NO lifters in between over head cam engines. It is most likely a cam sprocket issue. Very common in toyotas. Alot of dealers say its normal. there are TSB on these for noise to replace the Cam sprocket. I work for warranty company, common issue. water pumps fail on these toyota engines but usually are for leaking.
So took it in today to the dealer and they said that it was an o ring where the spark plug goes that was damaged so was messing with the oil pressure and causing it to knock, 75 dollar for parts which was really pennies and the rest im guessing was labor :/ but yes I did notice it to be sluggish and they said that this was the issue but all should be good in the monring, until then im ridin in a rolla! Oh yea back to basics haha ironic how this is the same car i traded in for the tc haha but yea thanks for all the replies and help I appreciate it alot thank you all!
