Default Hydrolocking completely stock TC2

Has anyone else heard of this happening?

I have a 2011 TC2 that is completely stock, although there is some minor damage to the drivers side fender/bumper from a small accident.

I was driving through about a foot of water and hydrolocked my engine. This was in November and after about 3 weeks of fighting with Toyota/Dealership/Scion they refused to warranty it and wanted $7k to fix.

I ended up having a used engine installed costing me $3800 and now I have no warranty on my drivetrain.

I just want to see if this is something that only happened to me, or if anyone knows of others with the same issue.

you should have put a v6 engine in that instead.

A v6 would have been awesome, but my mechanic highly recommended sticking with the same year/model engine for DMV reasons.

Insurance was a problem due to me being a ____head and not having my bill paid on time.

That sux. Sorry about the no insurance. That turned it into a cluster.

At least it was only your car for the $3800. If you had hit some one when trying to go through the water you would have had even a worse time with their repairs and the police tickets.

I didn't realize how deep it was. It was 2 door down from my house and we've never had flooding on my street before.

Other cars were driving through it no problem. I was the only one that didn't make it.

Stock tC2 has a snorkel that goes down like a CAI. At 12", you probably completely submerged it.

The chance of you accidentally hydrolocking your motor is rather low unless you make it a habit to drive through deep puddles.

Also, keep your insurance current.

yeah, toyota wouldn't cover that because it isn't a manufacturing defect. your car was damaged from an accident, and then you drove it through water and hydrolocked it. Toyota didn't build your car improperly. for whatever reason, your poor tC has had a rough time in it's short life.

as for your insurance, always keep your insurance current. seriously, you have no idea. also, accidentally flooding the car would be considered a comprehensive loss, and would have been completely covered by your insurance minus the applicable deductible. so for what of saving a premium, you cost yourself $3800 to put a used engine in your new car and forfeit your 5 year/60k mile power train warranty.

I don't know your situation, but you have to keep your priorities straight or stuff like this will mess up your life.
