Default Oil Longevity

Hi all,

This is my first experience with 0W20. Is it best to change it when it's black (or near black) like other oils? I used mostly 5W30 in my last car.

Cheers.

Being a thinner oil letting it go until it’s black will cause it to lose complete viscosity. Meaning it’s thin like water when it’s black and isn’t keeping anything lubricated. I change mine between 3500-4000 miles. Mileage, engine sludge, and other things may factor into actual oil life.
