Default Wife is trading her Prius for a 2015 tC, yes!!!! Is the Nav. worth it?

Well I haven't been on here in a long time as I sold my xA 5 years ago. My son still has his '09 xD. Wife is getting a little bored with her '10 Prius and wants something alittle more hip and she doesn't really drive it enough to make it worth while if that makes sense.

She's getting the automatic and she's having them put the OEM Fog lights put in it and that's it for now. They've offered her the Navigation system for a $1K installed. I know I can get a Garmin for about $100, we have a really old one now and we both have iPhones but the Nav. would be kinda nice but man a grand seems like a lot. So yea or nay? Do they still charge for updates to built in Navigation?

My car doesnt have nav, but 1k seems WAAAAY too much to me. If you really want in-car nav id get something aftermarket that will do the same thing and save you a few hundred.

$1k is a normal price for a factory NAV system. Aftermarket units are also up near a $1k depending on which model you choose, but they also have more options than a factory one would.

Got the call and the car is in. Pearl White and Automatic is kinda hard to find. The Fogs won't get put in until later from what they said. We're thinking that's it's just too much for the Nav. I've seen the Nav. modules on eBay for $400-450. not sure I'd want to go that way.

From what I've read all 2015's are suppose to have Paddle Shifters so it better have them, that's something I want.

The auto transmission is a slushbox...paddle shifters won't be a very rewarding experience. I never use the manual shift mode in mine for that reason.

And just get a Garmin with a large screen (5" or more). 2-300 bucks with all the nav functionality you'll ever need.

The Nav in the 2015 Scion TC is the Bespoke system. It runs off the Iphone and you have to use you data off you phone. Not worth it. Thats way I didn't get it in my 2015 Scion TC that I just got.

nah the nav system is an actual navigation system, that is separate from the bespoke, it used to only run through the phone but now the system actually has its own GPS antenna, I've used it at the dealership before and i truly didn't like it, i could have purchased the entire system with the gps module for about $600 on ebay then used it at the dealership and didn't like it at all

Buy a Kenwood headunit with GPS, all Kenwoods come with Garmin.

I don't have NAV, but I can't see myself using it more than I do Google Maps on my phone...wayy easier and convenient even if I have to use some of my data..

i have to 100% disagree with this statement.. all 11-13 tcs transmissions are a "slushbox (i owned a 2011, i know) scion did some changes in the transmission on the 14 tc (guess they call it DYNAMIC REV MANAGEMENT®) so it shifts on a dime basically. i speak from experiance

also i wouldnt pay 1k for NAV system then again i wouldnt use it.. the phone is just faster.
