Winter Tires
I am planning on getting a new set of winter tires plus steelies for my new 2014 TC.
Does anyone know if the 2013s are the same size?
Someone also told me I can go with 1 size lower for winters (17" instead of 18")....is that true? It can save me some money. Or does anyone recommend what I should use?
Also planning on getting some hancooks, are they any good?
Thanks.

i bought 225/48R18 winters when i used to drive in the winter. I have X-ice tires they are quite good. You could technically drop to a 16 inch tires and rim combo if you wanted to.
This is what I got quoted
Think im getting Bridgestone Blizzak LM60 95H XL on my stock rims
Prices are in CAD
Used my stock tires for last 2 winters and was fine, but need something this year
Not sure what kind of driving conditions you deal with, I would google some reviews and see if you like what you read, some tires are good with ice and slush but bad with snow ect..

The Blizzaks are good! I got them two winters ago. Now mind you I have a 2005 tC. I normally have 18" wheels in the warmer months and the width of the tires are 225mm. I bought the OEM 17" wheels for winter driving so I too went one inch smaller. The OEM tire size for the 17" wheels are 215/45/17. I bought Bridgestone Blizzaks WS70 205/50/17. I wanted reduce the tire width by one size to give the tire a little more "bite" in the snow. Additionally, I wanted to increase the aspect ratio (height:width) by one size to allow the tires to plow through the snow better. These tires work really good for me here in Vermont especially driving up to the mountains when I want to go snowboarding. I did not realize this when I bought them but in VT we are actually allowed to use studded tires on public roads, If I would have know this I would have probably bought those. You can go here to see if your state allows it http://drivinglaws.aaa.com/laws/studded-tires/ if it does not snow that much where you are it might not be worth spending the extra money. I have also heard many good things on the Nokian tires too so maybe something to look into. Goodluck this winter and drive safe!
I actually have a set of 4 blizzaks, forgot which model but the most expensive model they made, they have 1000-1200 all highway miles on them, they're 215/45/17, i know they'd go on a first gen tC, PM me for price and/or location, idk if I'm breaking rules saying this in the thread, hope not, I will not be using the tires on my tC, decided to get a set of extreme contact DWS's instead since my stock tires were completely done and weren't safe to drive on anymore
