For those who are running high intensity discharge, what bulb do you use. I have a 2006 xa, and was previously using 8000k H4 whateva. Bottom line the kit i belive was low quality(will not name names), or i was running the wrong bulb size. Maybe i was'nt running the wrong bulb size? End result was the bulbs on both sides developing bubbles in the the bulbs. One blew and i suspect the other was on its way. I am going with mcCulloch 6000K with upgraded harness(power from the battery). Can some one tell me what bulb is correct, and if McCulloch is a good company to go with. Sorry if this is the wrong forum

 

no one knows anything about bulb series, or what series means when it comes to high intensity discharge? Hard to believe, experience wanted. Leaches need not respond on their opinion.

 

hmmm.... maybe some of the xB or tC guys might be able to help, they usually have more modded cars... sorry I have no experience in most things electronic.

 

Your car uses H4 bulbs correct? Then H4 bulbs should be the right size. It would not have fit if it wasn't the right size right? The bubbling problem is probably caused by heat. And when you say it bubbled, where exactly?

since you are not willing to name the brand you used, there is nothing more i can say about it

Well i dunno what to say, you asked not to leave opinions and you ask about McCulloch kits...

....McCulloch sucks according to HIDplanet's forums, but compared to the other aftermarkets they are probably in the lead.

Stay away from ebay HID kits, especially ones that they sell with aftermarket headlamps that they throw together as a combo sale

 

The kit i used was "Breaker" distributed by paragon. The bubbling occured inside the bulb itself about dead middle of the bulb. I will check out hidplanet.

 

their forums are down atm, they are switching servers and trying to restore their DB as much as possible

that is exteremely weird with the bulb and can also caused by:
1. quality of the bulbs - little or no quality assurance are checked by HID aftermarket companies. It could not withstand the heat/power used to power up the bulbs
2. Quality of the ballast - ditto from the comment above with the additional about the actual power generated from their ballast. It may not be producing the power it said it is.

I'd definitly stop using that kit ASAP if you do not already have a professional wiring harness used to draw power directly from the battery as it can also damage your other electrical components in your car

I disconnected the entire system ballest, and all. I am going to purchase the phillips 4300k kit from xenondepot.com once i talk to them. As well, no the sys i was using did not draw power from the battey, the phillips kit will.

 

couple of things

phillips do not create aftermarket HID kits, beware
companies like xenondepot only packages them as phillips HID kits

With that said, i am sure that philips don't even make HID bulbs for H4 sizes. What aftermarket companies usually do is purcahse HID bulbs from these companies and put on custom bases to fit specific housing. With that said the bulb quality are definitly good. but once again, unsure if the quaility of the bulb base. Can it be possible that the base melt? breakdown due to chemical/gases under your hood, all those are unknown for. But what i can say, is that those bulbs would not bubble up inside the bulb like your previous kit.

Their ballasts are definitly a plus if they are using philips ballasts

xenondepot's harness does look great. ask them what gauge wire they are using (12 guage prefered)

overall, this kit would definitly be better than what you have now. and mostlikely better than mcCullouch's

(xenondepot charged me freakin 15 dollars for shipping OEM ballast connectors for phillips, BASTARDS, DHL delivery and shipped pretty damn fast, got it in 3 days)

 

yizzo, i lookedup xenon depot some more and i think they are probably better than any other kits out there

closest to oem which means better quality.
