Default Re-tinting

About a year ago I had the back half of my XA tinted 35%. I considered darker, but wasn't sure. Now I think I want all of the windows (sans windshield) at 20%. Is there normally an extra fee since there is existing tint? Is this even possible now? Would it be better to just do the front two windows at 35% since I'm partially committed? I know it's a lot of questions, but I feel better asking you guys than calling the shop and asking 100 dumb questions.

As far as I know...you can have the rear windows as dark as your heart desired. but I wouldn't give the two front windows any tint, Cops can pull you over for that. No attention worths that.

the PA law says that you must have 70% visibility on all windows. (http://www.tintdude.com/ptow.html). i dont know how the cops are out there in PA but in CA we usually have our windows superdark and i havent been pulled over before. there shouldnt be a fee if you have factory tint on the back windows, they will just put on a new layer. if you know people who have gotten pulled over with it then i probably wouldnt go for it. gl

maybe i was unclear...sorry.

i'm not questioning the legality...since it's basically all illegal here
it's not factory tint....the back half is from a local shop they installed for me, and don't know what the process would be to now make it darker ( i.e. from 35% to 20%)...anyone work with tint know how this works or if possible?

Yes, they can pull the tint that you have on now off. That is actually harder than putting the tint on too. Of course they'll charge you extra for that. I'd recommend not just tinting over what you have now without removing it because each layer will make the visibility more and more blurry.

Thanks Leroy! That's good to know about the negative impact of tinting over the old, this way i can make sure to specify, thank you. I think i want to go darker, but i'm also sort of afraid it will make the car feel small inside, whereas now it doesn't feel like a tiny car.

20% all around is not that dark. You won't feel closed in. It should look good.

Definitely have them peel off the existing tint before adding new tint. Don't let them be lazy and add a light layer over the 35% to darken it. Pay the extra charge to remove the old stuff. That'll make sure all the windows match.
