i forgot all about this thread.
the end result would have looked awsome, but i decided to go a different route and sold the setup to some kid from nyc. i dont have any pics, maybe he posted some up somewhere. sorry bro.

 

I'm more then likely going to be doing this mod by October sometime- at the same time put in my Silverstars.

I'll post pics once I'm done - doing my best to make my xA the ultimate Stormtrooper xA out there - I believe this mod is an absolute needed journey down that path!

forgot to ask, but besides the plastic primer you used, what kind of black paint did you use ? Does it matter ? Probably a flat-black(matte) would be best ??

 

260 is a bit overkill on sanding grit, any good 600-800 will be fine and you shouldn't have to use as much paint to hide the sanding scratches. i did this on my celica way before the scions ever came out. i used just regular car paint when doing it.

Would a Krylon "Fusion" matte-black work after sanding it (its supposed to act as a primer + paint all in one) ? Or.. if I do go plastic-primer, should I absolutely get a automotive plastic primer ? Also, what if I just left it the matte-black primer color - would that be fine ?? It would be sealed, but then again maybe after a few years it would want to flake off.

 

the stuff i used was called bulldog adhesion promoter, we get it at the body shop where i used to work, never had any problems with flaking. never used the krylon fusion though.

BTW, that is a phat Celica !!! I used to have a 1979 GT that rocked! Your latest gen. is growing on me- I like the projector headlights. Also, the 1990-3 All-trac is sweet!

 

i've had crappy results with the Fusion paint... after a year of heat and sun it becomes very brittle and flaked off

 

Thanks for the tip! No fusion! Its under $5- all in one, but its probably best for home project stuff , not automotive= higher heat source stuff!
