Bought a 2005 xA with just the 1 key. No FOBs. The key is pretty thin or flat and I drove 20 miles with no engine cut off.
So maybe the ignition keys are made without a transponder chip?

Does anyone know if the '05 key has no chip? Do replacement keys need a transponder chip?

Hmmm, seems like some are reporting on another thread that their xB 1st Gens don't have a transponder in the key.
If it applies to them, it would apply to the xA as well. Per the thread on the tC had a transponder in the key.

I recently bought a 2005 xA as well.
Regular key and a key fob with features.

No built in chip in the key.
