Default '06 xA trade-in value?

Hi SL,

I'm strongly considering trading in my 06 xA (MT) for a tC. Sorry, but I need something that holds its own on the thruway. At least I'm sticking with a Scion... I was considering a Lancer. Anyway, how much can I expect to get for a trade-in? Will be about 5,000 miles on it at time of trade in. Had a soft fender-bender on it last year but the damaged parts (front bumper, front/passenger fender) have been replaced, not repaired. I'm hoping for 11k.. but not sure what it's worth nowadays.

Thanks for any input!

Go to cars.com and get the Kelly Blue Book on your car. You just go to where it says "research" and then blue book value, then plug in your info and they tell you what your vehicle is worth. That is how I found the value of my RS 2.0. xb. It is now "Blue Booked" for more that it cost new and if a dealer were to put it on the lot they would ask even more. I traded a blue 04 xb on my 05 RS and the dealer acted like I was was out of my mind when I told him what I wanted for the old one. They act like your trade is an unwanted piece of crap that they will never be able to sell, and then they put them out on the lot for as much or more that new ones. Professional Ripoff artists.
I'm selling mine for less than what it is worth, but will still be lucky to find someone who understands what it is worth. Human nature, I guess........................"well, yeah I want it but I don't want to pay you a fair price!!!!!!!!"

What he said. I was thinking of trading in my 05 xA (MT as well) when it came time to buy my girlfriend's Yaris. The dealer kept begging me to trade it in but I said no! Anyways, Even though used xAs are still selling for 12-13K (especially out here in Cali where gas is hella expensive) you'd be hard-pressed to find a dealer who wants to give you more than 10K

The dealer offered me $11,700 for my '06 IIP 5sp xA with 11,000 miles.

First of all don't do a trade in, dealers screw u out of a good chunk of $$. Second if u can wait till Memorial Day when gas is goin to spike the value or ur car is also going to spike. I blued book what my car goes for retail when I bought it used for $11,000 with only 3800miles on it and it said that the car retails for $14,300. Plus since they don't make the xa anymore the value goes up as well. Used xAs on dealer lots r askin $15,000 with 32,000 miles for an 05 model. I think u can pull between $12-$13K easy, n with the gas price increase even more.

Since KBB n edmunds have a big gap in price usually, I'd take the 2 figures they give u n average them to see where it fars in the middle. Then tack on another $600 or so for when the gas prices go up n that's ur target value. Then put an ad out for afew hundred to a grand more for some haggling room so u can meet ur price. U'll wind up with alot more money and can pay off almost all of the tC. Good luck.

Just remember if you go private you're going to be paying taxes on the new car instead of the gap. Depending where you live it may be better to just trade in.
