Default AEM air intake

I was wondering if an AEM type air intake improves or diminishes gas mileage? I know the free flow picks up a couple of HP but does the kill gas mileage or is it just blending air/ fuel better and using things more efficiently.

It draws in MORE air, in turn, wasting more gas cause the ecu is programmed to run at a perfect air/fuel mixture of 14:1...

Yes, you get more HP and torque by adding the AEM. It can actually improve your MPG ... IF ... and it is a big IF ... you keep your foot out of it. The new sound of increased air being sucked into the intake is addictive and you may have a hard time driving less aggressive.

So ... yes, you can get better MPG, but will probably get less.

your better getting a hot air intake system to help improve your fuel economy cold air intake won't improve it what so ever

or... possibley better yet, simply go with a inexpensive K&N or TRD drop in replacement air-filter($40-50) , #1. never have to worry about replacing a air-filter ever again, 2. remove your snorkle off your air-intake/throttle body = and slightly increase mpg by roughly 5-10%

Default I was wondering the same thing....

Define a WARM-AIR INTAKE??I was seriuosly considering a K/N stock replacement and your saying to take off the fac snorkle? Why would you remove that, for sound or improved airflow OR to let the field mice have a nice home?

What is refered to as a "Warm Air-intake" , would be completely removing you stock/factory airbox/snorkle , etc. , and running a pipe from your air-intake throttle body(on the right side of the engine- attaches to the engine- its metal) straight up on the top/right side of your engine and having a cone air-filter there(some have done this w/ a BLITZ cone air filter). For 1st Gen xA or xB , your probably looking about , roughly 4-6 more hp out of this set up , not so sure exactly how much more mpg. On a spring/ summer day , I could see a 5% or so mpg increase.

What I was refering to , was simply removing the snorkle, kicking in a K&N or TRD drop in air filter in the stock air box, gain maybe 1-2 hp (little deeper sounding) , but its a 5-10% increase in mpg, depending upon the time of year, also depending upon how long car is in use(short 5-15 minute drives wont benifit as much- due to the AIR INTAKE Temperature, getting into 70+ F , is when its benificial- and this time of the year(winter) , people are driving in under 50 degree temps outside , so its difficult just getting the engine air temp above 60 degrees

MAF is NOT affected by removing the snorkle.

I checked that link, that is silly - rediculous $$ to spend on something like that.
If you want an open- cone cleanable/reusable air-filter = mainly for more hp , then go with the BLITZ system = I believe its right at about $200
