Default Considering buying an xA with an Automatic

This year I plan on trading in my '99 Sentra for either a '04 xA Automatic or '04 Corolla S Automatic. My main concern is the performance of the xA with the Automatic.

The one thing I noticed is that the xA has much more rear legroom than the Corolla. That is a good thing since my 6-year old son always complains about the legroom in my Sentra.

What are your thoughts?

Drive 'em both, see which one you like more. That's the most important thing. In terms of value for the price, the Scion wins hands down. To equip a Corolla S with the same stuff a scion has, you'd be looking at well over $17,000.

The corolla obviously has a more powerful engine, but it's heavier too. Between the 2, I'd say Scion, but I'm partial

You have to make this decision based on what feels better to you! Keep us posted. :D

Yeah, I got quoted around $18,487 for the Corolla S!! For that price I could get another Sentra but an SE-R. But the build quality of my Nissan or any Nissan is pathetic.

Nah, the rolla runs on the 1ZZ which has about 130hp. The tC runs on the Camry's engine... tho i forgot the name (160hp).

The 1ZZ in the rolla is also in the Pontiac Vibe (base), Toyota Matrix XR, and the MRS.

The rolla will be commin out with teh 2ZZ-GE this summer which puts out 170-180hp, this engine (which i used to have) is inside the VibeGT, MatrixXRS, and Lotus Elise. ((if you can wait for this baby.. its worth it!!))

Our xAs and xBs are runnin the 108hp 1NZ-FE which the Toyota Echo runs too.

But hey, since you've got a young child, ever consider the Toyta Matrix? it can haul alotta stuff and the base matrix shares teh current corolla's engine. Its priced round 16K me thinks...

My 2003 VibeGT was rated as 180 stock (tho i got it to right around 200 at the crank with mods). In 2004 the VibeGT and MatrixXRS were dumbed down 10hp for better emissions (which is whats happening to the CorollaXRS).

The Lotus Elise gets 190 cuz the intake and exhaust flow more freely (like my VibeGT did).

I'm an xB owner but I LOVE the xA as well. I also seriously considered at the Corolla S and Matrix before the xB stole my heart. I hope I don't get run off the board for what I'm about to say :D but here goes:

The Corolla S has more of a crush zone in the rear to protect back-seat passengers
Aftermarket Corolla parts are cheaper and more readily available.
Corollas can be had well below list price (see carsdirect.com)
The Corolla has more usable cargo room than the xA

My buddy got his 04 Corolla S (manual) with everthing for 16k out the door. They sell these cars like crazy, so I bet you could get the price way down if you worked hard enough. With that said, the xA should should be hassle-free (most of the time), and for every 50 Corollas there will probably be 1 xA! Either way, you should end up with a quality car

At six years old it's about having to sit still in one place, not about leg room. At that age I used to complain about the leg room in my parents' 1969 Dodge Monaco, which was the sort of car that had to be registered with the DMV *and* the Coast Guard

I just got quoted $15669 + tax and license from Stevens Creek Toyota for a Corolla S.
That price includes Automatic transmission, sunroof, rear spoiler and alloy wheels.

I also saw that I could add a supercharger later on if I wanted! :twisted:

Hmmmmmm................

Scion= Japanese made
Corolla= NOT Japanese made

Enough Said!

And what's this about a Lotus? Why is Toyota in bed with Lotus? What's the deal?
Or is it because that engine is made by Yamaha?

[quote="Pablo xB"]Scion= Japanese made

There are actually some Corollas that are built in Japan. However, most Japan built Corollas are base model CE's so I guess it wouldn't make a difference.

Ok, you people at dealerships? What would be the going price for a completely stock corolla CE, LE, and S? I'm talking about REAL price, none of this MSRP crap that means nothing. And I'm asking about BARE BONE ones.

Thank you! :D
