Default dealer question

my girlfriend bought a 05 xa about 3 weeks ago and she has a cel some sord of cam sensor and the dealer said they have to charge her 90 dollars to check. is it me or is this rediculous because she has a so-called certified car with all kind of warranties. is this rite for them to charge her???

If this were a new car then I'd tell you to whack them on the head because they're supposed to do it for free. But since this is used car, then it really depends on whats in the fine print when she signed for the car. Dealers sometimes sneak in little things like this so they can make you pay for more stuff. Although, I still think a good whack on the head is in order.

it depends on what the results of the test are. if the test reveals that there is a fault with a component of the car that is still under warranty, than that $90 dollar dianosing fee should be refunded.

but if they plug the car into the scanner, pull out an EVAP code because your gf forgot to tighten the gas cap, then they will charge the full $90 dollars.

so now, if the dianosis resulted in a warrantied repair to the xa, then the $90 dollars should be refunded, if it isn't, get intouch with scion corporate, they'll straighten things out.

thanks guys she told me that it was a cam gear that needed to be replaced and the 90 dollars was not charged so im happy now. still dont understand why something like that would go especially if they did this whole certified check before it was purchased. but whatever its covered

$90 is still steep! we only charge 40 and 99% of the time we dont charge that. If it was a "certified" Scion @ a Scion dealership, it is covered for up to 7 yrs or 100k miles. glad everything worked out. just my .02 but i would consider lookin for another dealership to do my service. they did u right this time, but what about the next time?
