Headers on an xa
I just installed my header this past weekend n it was totally worth it. First off let me just say that for anyone who is considering the Weapon R (formerly MMW) header, be warned..... They have updated the header design and it will NOT accept the factory headsheild anymore. Bit of a dissapointment for me cuz that was the main reason for going with it. Also the collector flange does not have the bracket to bolt up to the engine bracket and there are now nuts and washers included to be used with your factory spring bolts since the flange is no longer threaded. Also use a good 6 point socket set and lots of penetrateing oil.....every bolt came off without a problem, and no stripped header bolts. You also only need a new header gasket, Weapon R gives you a new donut gasket...which I'm now stuck with a spare Toyota donut gasket. I also recommend removing your entire cowl as it made the install alot easier to work back there.
The Weapon R header is a beautiful 4-2-1 header....Very noticeable gains. Nothing that will throw you back in your seat, but on the highway its extremely more eager to move. I have noticed on my TRD exhaust that the idle has more of a chop to it, which is nice...I think its louder also but haven't really tested that out yet. I also have an Injen CAI and with the header the engine now breaths alot deeper and considerably louder on hard acceleration....I love the sound, and I have noticed a smoother idle. Since the design is a 4-2-1 you do gain alil big of bottom to mid range torque. I have noticed that I can let a gear go alittle bit lower in speed and I'm able to accelerate out of it without a problem, where as before it would just bog and I was forced to downshift. No cells or anything since changeing the header does not involve messing with any emissions releated equipment. Definitly worth looking into the header....Also don't forget if you have a stick shift to tie back your shift cables.

STRUP. Could have installed it with my eyes closed. No funny stuff. (yes, the lower flange is threaded) I don't know of any header that accepts a heat shield. A good header should get rid of the heat that the factory manifold retains. If t hat's not good enough, wrap it. Or get a ceramic Strup. The ceramic coating controls heat better than without it.
I think his website says 299. I sent him a pm with no response about a header and exhaust plus installation if I drive up. I also asked if it threw a code, was va legal and what exhaust gives more low and mid range he sold.
What's your price for the weapon r header?
