Default Help Please: Exhaust joint

2005 Xa. The pipe after the catalytic converter is rotted where it joins the pipe to the muffler. Below are links to pics.

Questions please:
1. The catalytic converter assembly looks like "one big long welded pipe" ? I can't find any joints ?

2. Any inexpensive way to fix this connection ? I hope I don't have to replace this "big long catalytic converter pipe".

3. Any good sources for parts ?

Thanks !!!

Looks like this is the whole assembly ? (the 099-1603 part)

$300 just for the part...bummer. Gotta be a cheaper way.

From the exhaust manifold back to the connection to the muffler is one piece. I am going through the same pain you are, salty roads having destroyed a lot of my exhaust. I broke the joint in a way that let me continue to use it with a new muffler. When I get the xA back to the states, I'll have to replace the whole exhaust due to corrosion.

Also, check Auto Zone online, they sell that muffler clamp and seal that are a lot better than OEM.

I needed to to do a quick repair so I: 1. Wrapped bad joint with aluminum tape tape they use for HVAC systems, 2. Wrapped that with metal roof flashing, then 3. Put two U clamps around it.

Holding so far (1 week)....
