Our xA finally got 38,0021 miles. Trouble free, This year I did some PM, on wear items, like tires and brake pads front,
changed the oil DIY, had the tranny flushed by the dealer, and coolant change. other than that no problems.

yes i am! codes 300, 301, 302, 303 cylinder and random misfire. toyota dealership wouldn't tell me EXACTLY what it is though. but of course they will for another full diagnostic -_-

i plan on changing all spark plugs, wires, and coils. hopefully that will fix all problems.

I recently changed the spark plugs on mine with NGK BKR5EYA (2087). Our cars don't have spark plug wires. I'd do the spark plugs before buying coils. When was the last time you replaced them?

I recommend NGK or Denso OEM. Don't get Bosch, Champion, AC Delco or Laserlite. I've had problems with those in Japanese cars in the past. Also, I tried NGK Iridium and my engine would shake at idle and when the AC was on. A toyota tech on another site recommended that I switch them out with NGK V-Power and the shaking went away.

165,xxx and counting everyday delivered with 9 miles on ODO..... only major issue i have right now is the front seal is leaking... not much just enough to sling oil all over the right side of the engine bay.... I also need to replace 3 wheel bearings (replace 1 at 160k) but waiting for the other 3 to get worse..... ohhh yeah Catalyst went out just after 100k but w/e i had just gotten it inspected 2 days before so ill fix that when i have 2 and I also have a DTC for the VVT intake over retarded but I have been getting consistent gas mileage of 340 miles a tank so why fix it .....

How can you tell if the wheel bearings need to be replaced? I'm starting to hear a slight humm from the rear passenger side.

Jack your car up, engage the e-brake and push against the suspected wheel(s). If any movement or noise, there's a good chance it's out. I've replaced three of mine already, and I'm at just about 110,xxx. BUT, my car was flooded this past January . No other problems to report, just routine maintenance and she's golden .

Anytime! No worries, everyone has to start somewhere. If you do decide to get them all replaced though, I would highly recommend doing them all at the same time. The actual bearings themselves are only around 60 bucks a piece, so x4 would equal 240 in parts. Usually the labor will be a one time fee, so instead of paying 60 + 200 or whatever in labor four times, it would make better, more economical sense to have them all replaced at the same time off of one labor charge. Just a thought

2005 xA RS 1-final odometer...235,735. A couple wheel bearings, a couple ignition coils and that was it besides brakes, tires etc. I kept wondering after 200 thousand how long can this little car go? I found out the week my son got his license. Into the ditch/ravine smashed the front end badly and the back side was crushed as it flipped over.
My son was fine but xA not so much. I've never had a car mean so much to me and I miss it. I was usually glad to get rid of any other car but not this one. It was almost like losing a pet. I really can't explain it. So, what did I do? I immediately found an xD RS 1 nearby by for sale. Not quite the same car but I'm sure it will grow on me. R.I.P. little red xA.

06 xA automatic - 140k miles.
Bought it new for my wife, and nothing's broke yet.
All I do is basic maintenance...oil changes on time, spark plugs every 30k, air filter 15k, etc etc.
The car sat for a year and a half while out of country, and we came back a couple weeks ago.

Put a new battery in it, new tires, oil change, filters, tuneup, and it's running and driving like a champ again.

Didn't pull any codes just replaced plugs due to hesitation in acceleration. This is what I found on cyl #4 (plug was also not tight as cyl #1-3) scared me but runs fine with new NGK's. These are Bosch platinum +4 plugs. Plug on left has groove burned all the way around loosing compression and you can see the etched ceramic , also burned off the 4 ground legs and blew soot all over boot. Glad to report oil change at 150K miles and ready to flush coolant for winter driving.

Default Love my xA

I got a 2005 xA R1.0 in Oct. (I think) of 2004. I LOVE my car, has 175,000+ miles on it and I still get compliments on it and people asking what kind it is. The worst problem I've had (and it drives me nuts) is the screeching belt, I don't know why the dealer or anyone else can't seem to fix that, but I can deal with it (just in cold weather). I've been thinking lately that I should get something else but I just can't find anything else I love as well for the price and the look and the mileage. So I'm thinking I'll put some money into it and get it overhauled and just keep driving it(-: It does need a new stereo. I went to a LOT of trouble to get the R1.0 (the dealer sold the first one from under me so they had to search and bring another one in) but I'm so glad I did. I may allow my daughter to have it when she starts driving next year.
