Default installing K&N drop in filter on xa

i bought a k&n filter for my xa (part # 33-2211) and i cannot get it to fit no matter what i do.
I unclip the metal brackets, lift the top of the box to the left and slide in the filter in. i am placing the filter right side up with this side (http://www.kandn.com/images/l/33-2211.jpg) facing down into the bottom of the box.

i cannot get the box to close to matter what i do.
any tricks or is there something i am doing wrong?

any help would be great! thank you!

ps-i moved to boston and hate the salt..it ruins your clear coat on your rims

the K&N filter will fit its just a very tight squeeze to get every thing back into place due to the filter is a little bit thicker then the paper element...

It took me 2 seconds to get the K&N filter on man. You just undo the clips....put on the filter...and then put back on the cover. It's not exactly rocket science.

just replaced my air filter and i also had trouble getting it to fit. The trick is removing some of the hoses that are attached to the housing. Im not very mechanical at all so i dont know what the damn hoses were that i disconnected but try removing one or two. All you need to do is get the cover in at the proper angle. Once you're done be sure you reconnect the hoses

one of the better upgrades for your car... and very low cost / great bang for the buck as well $35-50.
