I've been consistently been getting just below 30 MPG. Over a 60-day period, I think it was 29.3 (?) MPG. I've definitely happy with it compared to other cars... but not so happy with it compared to you guys...

Hi guys, I'm going to buy an xA pretty soon and it's going to be my first car. I was wondering what gas should I get.

Premium, or Regular and which gas station would you guys recommend most? My sister told me Exxon and Arco got the worst gas and should stay away from getting it.

Plus gas has been very pricy lately, it's more than $3 where I live. (Some gas station is in the $4 range)

Oh and if you guys have any great advice for this new driver, let me know! Thanks.

I am hitting around 33-34 consistantly......I am due to clean my air filter first chance I get....we'll see if that helps any.

And welcome to stealthealien!!! The xA uses regular, the motor was tuned to run best on 87 oct. I stay with what Toyota says... they built it, they warranty it, so I play by their rules.
As for what brand, just stick with the top tier brands, you will be fine.

my dealer said that for the first 3 tanks or so it would possibly be better to get a higher octane since it burns hotter, it helps to clean the engine better the first few go-arounds.

still not sure if i'll do that (he said it wasn't mandatory)...my baby just hit 100 miles today and has just under 3/4 of a tank left. there were 10 miles on her when i got her thursday, so i've put about 100 on since then (i think there's 109 right now).

northtouk: think $/gal, not mpg.

I'm regularly getting 35 mpg in mixed commuting, and staying at the speed limits (55 & 65 on highways).

What's amazing is how low $2.589 feels after paying so much more just a few weeks ago.

just filled 'er up this afternoon. first tank got 34 MPG. that was i guess mostly highway, though it was also just 7 miles each way on the highway and probably 3 miles each way on city streets. and of course the random jaunts down the street to kroger and to my friend's house (2 miles away). but i think most of it was done on the highway. but i was very glad to see that 34 MPG on the calculator

Default gas mileage

I don't know about breaking in the engine???? But I do know that I commute 50 miles round trip for work - 1/2 highway & 1/2 city driving and I am getting 34.5 miles per gallon.

Just took a long trip this weekend, 200 mile round trip at 55 mph, slowing for small towns every 5 miles or so, A/C the entire trip in 90° heat. Started with a full tank, and it's still above half. For every tank that's given me 34, I usually hit the half tick around 180 or so. Won't know until next fill, but it looks promising.

Mine gets a average of 35 mpg. That over 11k miles.

I broke mine in by driving the hell out of it..Im a tech for a dealer(16 years).Toyota "recommends" certain ways to cover its ___.16 years of toyotas ive never broken it in by "their" standards.Break in it like you are gonna drive it.

Only mods to mine is a trd catback ,trd springs and a trd air filter.

Ive gotten as good as 41mpg and as little as 30mpg(using 93 octane).

Stay under 70mph and drive with drive it easy and it will net 37+mpg all day long..

I average 360 miles per tank.. fill up at the first sign of the low fuel light..Around 9.7~10.1 gallons.
