I would be tempted to run a couple bottles of really good injector cleaner through it and see if it makes a difference.

I've got 26K on mine and get a consistent 32 - 33 mpg and thats stuck in L.A. traffic a good deal of the time. The best milage I ever got was 40 but that's before I changed the tires. I'm running 205 Kumho Ecsta Spt's now so I expected the milage to drop. I recently changed the exhaust to a DC Sports and went to an TRD cold air intake.I've seen an increase of about 1.5 mpg on the high way and I admit to driving a bit harder just to hear the engine sound. Give it some time to break in I'm sure it will improve.

i have to say that i get some strange gas milage on mine.
i just came went to see the fam in miami and i got to miami with about a little past a half tank of gas (day driving 80mph-about 300 miles from my house to miami) and then in the city got crap milage.
on the way home nite driving 75mph i get roughly the same gas milage.
when i got first my car i got really good milage and it hasn't been the best ever since...

Air temp affects drag and also traffic - if you are doing 80 in traffic then you get a lot of the air around you moving in the same direction and that boosts the mileage you know . . . drafting.

mine gets 38-40 mpg since day one. thats city hwy mixed. if you drive over 70 mph on the hwy, the mileage will drop to 30 due to the low gearing (to give the xa pep)

you can baby it but if you cruise at 80-90 mph it's going to suck down the gas.

Well tommorow I am going to check the gapping on the plugs...what is the gap for our cars? And I am running a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it also.

I average a consistent 31-32mpg, city or highway. At 35 or 75, that's what I get.

Yeah plug gap could cause missfires and waste fuel but the coils would not like that at all - probably start breaking down some insulation. THe only other thing is the valve timing could be stuck in a power setting and not an economy setting. Had an xB having simular problems last year here on SL and that was the only thing we could think of - had no pep and poor gas mileage. Definately run some carb/injector cleaner and check them plugs and note the color of the buildup if any on the plugs when you have them out too. If they look nasty take photos!!

Well here is what I got from the dealer....Everything ran okay and he pulled the plugs and said that they were all gapped correctly. So I guess I just have to wait till it totally breaks in @ 5,000 miles and see what I am going to get. My next oil change I am going to have them run synthetic and I am going to go get a Cold Air Intake to help my little baby run

I would stay away from the cold air intake - from what I have read here they seem to cause some problems at idle and burn more fuel not less. Definately go with synthetic but nothing too expensive - Mobile 1 seems to work well - any extra $$ and you waste more money on not enough gain in mileage to pay for it since you have to change every 5k miles anyway. Do some down hill engine braking as that helps loosen up the engine and works the valve timing - get the revs up to the 3k rpm area at least and you may notice a more responsive gas pedal when you take off after the hill too.

I wonder if maybe you have your "overdrive" button pushed in. I drove my car for three days wondering why I was hearing engine pull so much and wondering why I saw an "O" on my dash. RPMs were climbing and my gas tank was draining. Pulled out the owner's manual and saw where I needed to release the "Overdrive" button - since then, I've averaged anywhere from 33-40 mpg interstate and zippin around town. good luck!

Ive decided to stick with the stock intake since it seemed mixed as to rather or not you got better economy. Seemed through my limited research the warm air intake got better since it made the computer run learner. THe air filter as is in this car looks rather free flowing.

wondering who is pumping your gas into your car - or maybe someone is taking it out when you are not looking? That is really low mileage - I have been averaging 45mpg in my xB - I will admit I get a lot more than the usual xB driver but two other guys get what I get with automatics in Texas and Alaska so what you are getting is really low. RPM should be less than half your speed somewhere around 2500rpm at 60 I think - if not then you are not in overdrive but even then you should be getting higher mileage that 22. Maybe you should go to PA or NY and pump the gas yourself for two fillups.

Pumping gas yourself is not foolproof either. There's a GetGo up the street I usually go to, and for whatever reason their pumps stop pumping a good 1 or 2 gallons from full (compared to other places). I've tried topping it off multiple times after the auto shutoff, and the needle still won't be at the F mark.

Needless to say, I was getting some wacky MPG numbers. I've avoided that GetGo for the past couple months, and I seem to average about 27-30 MPG with virtually 100% city (very hilly, short trips) driving.
